Re: Do the inconsistencies of Disney bother you in shows/movies?

The last thing you should do is take offense. They are joking. It is comedy at the expense of Disney. I think they are intentionally badly written to ensure the joke is on Disney. How can you take it seriously since they haven't said a truthful joke?

I suppose they should be more mean spirited. Say something accurate and it cuts more deeply like "No one goes to Disneyland. It is too crowded." People seem to say this a lot in these forums.

Slightly annoying, but in an amusing sort of way. The Jurassic Park line has always bugged me though. Even if you do the bare minimum amount of research on what year DL opened, how the hell do you end up with 1956? And from Steven Spielberg, no less. You'd think he would be more familiar with Disneyland.

It has never bothered me at all with tv. My Disney nerd senses tend to tingle with real people who say false things in front of me.

To be fair, it's not known if the line in Jurassic Park was intentional or not. John Hammond is portrayed as an eccentric man, and it's completely plausible that his character would not get hung up over details about a theme park's history when his mind is busy...well you know, cloning dinosaurs and stuff. Or, the line could've been made that way to accentuate John Hammond's ignorance, which is a main theme of the movie.

Or the actor could've just messed up the line but it was the best take they had so they decided to just screw it and hope no one really cared (and to be honest, the majority of people watching the movie probably didn't know that was an inconsistency). I always thought it was more of a mistake by the character though, rather than the writers.

In the Boy Meets World episode it is clearly they were at the Splash Mountain loading area. The scene where they are looking at each other and then yelling after the ride starts made it look like the drop was right after the loading area. The whole scene starts @4:31

To be fair, Michelle had run off and it's possible that Snow White was a means to get her attention. The only thing that really bothered me about that two-parter was that the family goes from Magic Kingdom to the Studios (to see the parade and the Indy Stunt Spectacular) and then back to Magic Kingdom again in the same day. Odd form of park hopping IMO.

Re: Do the inconsistencies of Disney bother you in shows/movies?

I would venture a guess that the lines are written based on what that character is like or supposed to be which may or may not know the accuracy of things and topics.

For example Penny is a bit of a ditz, its very likely she does not know there is no Matterhorn at Disneyworld.

If they were mistakes made in a documentary then it would be annoying, but not so much in a fictional movie or TV show, where the lines are written to reflect the character.

Re: Do the inconsistencies of Disney bother you in shows/movies?

The funniest is when Disney makes them themselves.

Year after year after year, the host of the Disneyland portion of the Christmas Parade broadcast would comment, "There are the white roses that the Queen of Hearts ordered to be painted red!" And even as a little kid, I would object! She wanted real red roses, and actually sentenced the gardeners to be executed for painting them red.

1988 host Sarah Purcell also flubbed her cue card read and referred to the hippo and crocodile ballet from Fantasia as the "Dance of the Horns".

Also, WDW host Alan Thicke once commented that Walt Disney's all time favorite film was Dumbo, while from what I read, Walt was not particularly involved with the production of Dumbo and kind of resented its success.

Then there's The Muppets at Walt Disney World special, where Animal breaks into the gate at what appears to be (then) Disney-MGM Studios, which somehow gives the Muppets free access to all of Walt Disney World. (Apparently it was a Park HopperTM break-in).

Also, the original TV broadcast that introduced Pirates of the Caribbean shows those "explosivos" actually going off. (Accompanied by dubbed-in screams from the guests in the boat).

And virtually every official special and coffee table book repeats that colorblind bulldozer driver story that every unofficial source insists isn't true.

It's things like where they are supposedly in one park but go on a ride that doesn't exist in that park that bugs me.
Exactly what I was thinking. It makes the characters that much more believable when they spout out things that aren't factual.

And there are so many mistakes in Jurassic Park (the T-rex scene comes to mind), that it really doesn't matter if they actually got the date wrong. People running from dinosaurs is all that matters.

    Agreed.

    And you know what?

Sometimes... When I'm alone... I like to go to movie database websites... And read about movie goofs and trivia. Lol.

I especially like to read about anachronisms in period flicks. I can't decide if it gives me schadenfreude or if it just relieves me to know that we're all human and make mistakes, even big-shot filmakers.

Anyway, it doesn't bother me in the least. Even the Jurassic Park quote doesn't bother me because Richard Attenborough still made it sound cool.

Never thought about that. However, I am guessing no more than 5% of the people who watched that movie knew the park was open in 1955 and 1956. This is a movie from 1993 so we are talking about 38 years after the park opened and you have to wonder if this was intentional based on the ignorance of the character then they really weren't trying to appeal to most of the audience.

I've always thought it was written in the script as 1956 and that person made a mistake. Put it this way, Spielberg reads the script and by his own memory he thinks 1956 sounds alright. He's directing the movie and that line comes up. This is Steven Spielberg who created Jaws and E.T. who has a good enough memory to remember it was 1955 and decide to tell Spielberg the script is incorrect? People just may not have bothered.

I will say one thing, the Simpsons have done a couple of funny jokes based on California Adventure. Everyone knows the park wasn't up to snuff when it first opened. I always found those jokes funny but when I went in 2012 for the first time in the post Carsland DCA I thought the park was amazing.

In the same episode of Family Guy mentioned earlier, there is a Captain EO scene, though the attraction was closed at the time, and I'm pretty sure this was intentional. I actually found the scene to be pretty hilarious!

As far as the incorrect facts it doesn't really bug me at all. The way its delivered usually works in the mentioned movies above.
