Joe's dream come true Club 33 visit - photo heavy plus some 360 views inside the club

On Feb 24th 2013, Theresa, Ruston, Jacob and I all had one of our biggest Disney dreams come true!

Not only were we going to be having breakfast at Club 33 today, but Feb 24th was also Dapper Day at Disneyland. What is Dapper Day? From the DapperDay.com website:

Inspired by the original Disney park designer's illustrations, which often featured extremely well dressed guests enjoying the park, DAPPER DAY events celebrate the tradition of stepping out in style.
While not an official celebration hosted by Disneyland, they do recognize it and they even created a pin for it this year.

Our Club 33 host thought it would be a great idea to have a breakfast brunch for a large group of friends to celebrate the day. We couldn't agree more!
Early in the morning at 7:30, the entire group met at the west floodgate and chatted until the Club 33 manager came to greet us.
Theresa and I were looking forward to all the great experiences we were going to have at Disneyland today.

Jacob and Ruston are looking quite dapper. Ruston even pulled out his grandfather's old bow tie to wear.

Before heading to the club, we all posed for a huge group photo in front of the castle. (Click the photo for a much bigger version that you can actually see people's faces).

We were led through an empty Adventureland by the Club 33 manager.

Then we walked through the empty New Orleans square onto Royal St all the way to door 33.

After all the years imagining it, we were inside!

This morning is going to be epic!

Once at the top of the stairs, we walked over to the main dining hall to enjoy a delicious breakfast.

We walked through another hallway over to the Main Dining Room.

All the tables were set up and waiting for us.

Our breakfast buffet consisted of the following:
Mini quiches, Eggs Benedict, Macerated berry compote crepes, Lyonnaise sliced potatoes,Grilled sirloin steak, Clove studded honey ham, Assorted Juices, coffee, tea and milk, Assorted cereals, Mini Danishes, Croissants, muffins, scones, brioche with marmalades and preserves (all baked at the Disneyland hotel bakery!), Season fresh fruit, and Regional cheeses

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and great company, talking with our table-mates Dale, Grace, their daughter and Dave DeCaro.

Can you believe I didn't take a photo of my plate? The eggs benedict were delicious, along with the clove studded ham and sirloin steak. Actually it was all fantastic. There wasn't a single thing I got that I didn't like.

Our time in the club was passing much too quickly. It's time to go explore!
Here's one of the porches off the Main Dining room in the club. It's great looking out over the square and having the view from up here.

Looking back across Royal St towards the entrance to the club, just to the right of the Blue Bayou restaurant.

That building on the left houses the Disneyland Dream Suite. Click here and you can read all about our amazing overnight stay there back in July 2012.

Just a few photos on the balcony overlooking the Rivers of America.
    Theresa and I.

    Plus Jacob.

Plus Ruston! The whole crew is complete!

Let's go explore the rest of the club!
Going all the way back downstairs to the entrance, this is what greets you as soon as you enter the door.

Even the required signage looks period specific. And Club 33 by the way is the only place inside Disneyland the serves alcohol.

Of course, the best way to experience the room is with a 360 degree view of it. Make sure you press "F" to see it in full screen! Make sure you use the +/- keys on the bottom too to zoom in and out. There's lots of detail here.

Dominating the room is an elevator to take you up to the 2nd floor. You could take the stairs, but what's the fun in that?

Continuing up the stairs, we reach the top of the elevator.

All around the club are these great classic pictures of Walt. Oh to just have more time here...

The door to the right in the photo above has this sign on it. When we did see someone going through this door, it looked to lead to a second balcony inside the Blue Bayou restaurant.

The lunch menus were waiting for the next group of Club 33 members

That Filet Mignon with truffle mac and cheese looks like it could be delicious.

Even the light sconces are decorated with the Club 33 logo.

The next room we visited was the trophy room. This is the room I envision in my head whenever I think of Club 33. In this room, there is an animatronic vulture in the corner that was designed to interact with guests. In the light fixtures were microphones that would allow the operator to listen to the conversations and talk back and forth with the guests. In the end, it was never implemented though. Who would want someone potentially listening to their conversations?

How about an awesome 360 view of the Trophy Room?

    Here's that animatronic vulture.

This "eagle" is sitting in front of a sign showing the capacity of 33 for the trophy room.

In the center of this light fixture is one of the microphones.

And here's a closer view of all the items around the room.

Just outside the trophy room is a phone booth from the movie The Happiest Millionaire.

Theresa learned that this is actually a real working phone when she picked it up.

Heading back down the hallway towards the main dining room.

This harpsichord was custom built for Lillian Disney.

And the lid was painted by Disney artists. We were trying to figure out where the scene was based. We can see a paddleboat in the scene along a waterway. Our guess was that this is some southern plantation in New Orleans overlooking the Mississippi river.

We continued to the balcony overlooking Orleans St.

And of course no trip to Club 33 would be complete without a trip to the restroom. This is the men's restroom. Napkins are sitting on table at the exit.

    Looking toward the sinks.

There wasn't anything too special about the men's room. The toilet was your typical white porcelain.

Now let's head to the women's restroom. Theresa took over with the camera and headed in. Looking back towards the entrance.

There is a powder room at the entrance with a full length mirror.

    Plus a small vanity.

In a separate room was the rest of the restroom.

It's all very fancy in here.

Sadly, after only 2 hours in the club, it was time to leave. The club had to set up for lunch and needed us to clear the area.

    Our table-mates Grace and Dale.

But there was one more treat in store for us.

A ride down in the elevator!

It was a little bit of a squeeze, especially since the door opens inward, but we all rode down together!

Once outside of course we had to get some shots in front of the door.

We had a fantastic time visiting the club! For all the people who helped make our dream come true, thank you so much!

Wonderful TR! I was in Club 33 the day before you were, my first time ever, and everything about it was amazing. I didn't see the phone booth!! Our reservations were at 6pm, I'm really hoping to one day go in during the day time to go on the balcony during daylight.

Your photos are outstanding. That is so funny that your friend took her photo in the vanity and stall mirrors - I did the exact same thing!!

Thank you to Poisonedapples for my awesome signature!

Nice pictures...the harpsichord picture is interesting. I think it's New Orleans. The white building looks like St Louis Cathedral. And while it's not as close to the water as the picture would like you to believe...it IS facing the Mississippi River. You just have Jackson Square, Decautur St, and Cafe Du Monde between them. But then...artists like taking liberties. Haha. Perhaps..it was meant to be before all of that stuff was built.

Excellent trip report! I remember your Dream Suite trip report and that was an amazing report too! I'm quite jealous of all the amazing places you've been to at Disneyland, and I hope to one day visit at least one of those places. I LOVE your 360 views! How do you create something like that? Thanks for sharing your amazing trips with us! Keep those quality reports coming!

I really like the 360 views too. That's how I really feel like I'm there again when I go back and look at pictures.
You can get an idea of how I take the photos themselves from this one.

My reflection is in one of the mirrors and you can see my setup. I have my camera on a tripod and I swivel it around, making sure I get the ceiling and floor as much as I can. From there, I use the free program Microsoft ICE to stitch it all together and if you have a Photosynth account, you can upload it directly from there.

It works much better when you have a tripod so the camera never moves too far from picture to picture. I've tried to handhold a complete 360 panorama shot (which you'll see shortly) and the results were only so-so.

Re: Joe's dream come true Club 33 visit - photo heavy plus some 360 views inside the

This morning we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast at Club 33. The rest of the day, we're going to spend it going around the parks and looking Dapper! But our Club 33 host had another surprise in store for us. We're all going to take a trip on the Lilly Belle! That's another thing Theresa and I have never done!

You might know of Ruston's fascination with taking pictures while holding up whatever is in his hands. See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, or here for examples.

We even got a souvenir ticket!

A few of our fellow guests.

This guy had a classic hardhat that belonged to his father. His dad worked at Disneyland and he said Walt Disney gave his father the hat.

About to hop on the Lilly Belle!

There's a great classic photo of Walt and Lillian.

And it's decorated all in the same style as Club 33.

These tiny metal tassels were interesting. They serve no purpose other than decoration.

Looking out the back of the train.

And a photo stretching the camera out the window.

This 360 view isn't the greatest since I didn't set up my tripod, but it's the only one I've ever seen. Click the photo below to go see it.

At the last stop, one of the conductors came in and asked us how we were enjoying it. It was pretty awesome. He asked if we had looked through the photo book and signed the guest book. Um... I didn't even know there was one. So, lesson learned, if you ever happen to be able to ride, go through the drawers and find the guest book!

Because Main Street Station was closed due to the refurbishment, we got off at New Orleans Square. Haunted Mansion only had a 5 minute wait, so we couldn't pass it up.

We headed back to Critter Country and rode Theresa's favorite ride, Winnie the Pooh. Then we sat along side the Rivers of America and just enjoyed the atmosphere.

For lunch, we dined in New Orleans Square at the French Market Restaurant and enjoyed the live jazz band.

It's awesome to just people watch today, seeing how people decided to celebrate Dapper Day.

Jim and Susan, Ruston's and our friends from Florida, happened to be visiting, so we enjoyed walking around the parks with them.

And wherever a gathering of dapper people happened, group pictures inevitably followed.

At 1:30, there was an official gathering in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle for a group photo.
The Disney photographers really had their hands full taking pictures with everyone's camera. (click the photo to see a much bigger version)

We decided we needed to get some photos on Buena Vista street in DCA, so we hopped on a horse drawn trolley to take a ride up to the front of the park.

The horse who is pulling us today is Brother.

    Thank you Brother!

Of course we took a photo in front of the Storytellers statue.

Plus a few more in front of Carthay Circle restaurant.

These guys were looking quite spiffy so Ruston asked them to join us in our photo.

None of us are used to walking around all day in dress clothes and shoes, so we headed to the beautiful Grand Californian lobby and talked about our next adventure coming up, Minnie's Moonlit Madness. More on that in a future post.

We've had so many great experiences today and Ruston just happened to have one more special treat lined up. He is friends with another Disneyland cast member who previously worked at the Haunted Mansion who offered to take us on a 30 minute private garden tour. We were super excited to be shown around the Haunted Mansion since it's one of our favorite rides at the park. I think the cast member recognized it too, because our 30 minute tour turned into a 1:20 minute tour. I tried to write down as much as I could remember about what he said during the tour and I'll go back to the park later to take pictures to go with it. That'll be a future post to look forward to.

All of us had work the next day and some of us had to be there at 6:45am, so even though the night was still young, it was time to go home. We walked over to Tomorrowland and boarded the monorail then walked back to the parking garage.

What an incredible day! Club 33, a ride on the Lilly Belle, Dapper Day at Disneyland, plus a private guided tour around the Haunted Mansion! How can it get much better?
