Re: Wizard of Oz vs. Lone Ranger for Circle D/BTR BBQ Expansion

Well we do have Mad T Party and tons of merch including the very popular mad hatter hats. If there weren't two original alice attractions at DL, they'd probably actually do one (not that I'd want one in the first place)

Besides yourself, how many people actually remember Return to Oz with that classic world famous actress Fairuza Balk? Probably not too many. Not to mention it was a terrible movie. No matter how much money Oz the Great and Powerful makes, it will never take the place or have the longevity of the MGM movie.

Eggzactly, Return to Oz was way too dark and creepy.

Neither! I think lone ranger looks good but should not be an attraction and the new Oz looks aweful IMO and the original while classic I do not think is right for an attraction or land.

I think you would be hard pressed to find adults these days that want to see that film. It was horrible.

I recently saw Return to Oz on Youtube when Oz: the Great and Powerful had it first trailer. I was curious how a Disney version would be like.

I like it but it was different. I was expecting it to be a musical. It is best not to compare it to the MGM movie. I did like it because it was an additional story to the Classic movie rather than a remake and redoing the story of the Classic.

OZ:TGAP will be interesting to see how Oscar Diggs becomes the Wizard and the use of modern special effects.

I agree and am looking forward to seeing this next weekend, but I don't think it belongs in Disneyland.

Why does Wizard of Oz not belong in Disneyland? In the 1950's, Walt Disney planned to have a Candy Mt. that had scenes from the Land of Oz. He did bought the rights to the books. Emerald City can be seen on Le Pays des Contes de Fees at Disneyland Paris.

It just seems more like something that would fit better in a Las Vegas casino. Besides, there is really no place that it would fit in Disneyland.

I have a premonition that if the Oz movie does well that we will see something come to the parks. The Wizard of Oz has really remained timeless throughout the years, I think it would be a great fit for Disneyland if they did it on the scale of Carsland.

Where would they put this land? Unless they plan on taking out Toontown and some of the backstage then we have no room for a new land at the scale of Carsland
The area near Frontierland is big enough to be an expansion but not a BIG new land

Re: Wizard of Oz vs. Lone Ranger for Circle D/BTR BBQ Expansion

I would go with Lone Ranger. It will fit in to the Frontierland area nicely. We don't need OZ and we don't need a bigger Fantasyland. People say "oh I like the OZ concept, I am familiar with the movie. The movie hasn't come out yet and your familiar with the MGM movie. Disney does not have the rights to that movie so would not see the characters that are from that movie. Disney only owns the rights to 13 of the books. Any likeness of items from the Wizard of Oz would be a copyright infringement. WB is now the owner of the MGM movie rights.

Stick with a western theme in a western themed area.
