Re: Wizard of Oz vs. Lone Ranger for Circle D/BTR BBQ Expansion

At this point, I'm not enthusiastic for either of these ideas.

Blow the dust off those plans for Discovery Bay.

    I agree.

The new OZ film has come and failed to be a Harry Potter/Star Wars blockbuster worthy of Disney park space. We don't know yet if the Lone Ranger movie will be any good.

I'd like an original Star Wars inspired area that inspires future movies, rather than just following past Star Wars movies. The updated Star Tours set the bar impressively high. I'd also like Disney to try and create this at Universal Orlando speed.

Here's one proposal that Micechatter Randy Sage worked on, that includes both an attraction for Big Thunder Ranch as well as replacing the Motor Boat Lagoon and Autopia with a Jules Verne land.

Really? Was Disney hoping it would be a major blockbuster? I read there are plans for a sequel, so it is at least good enough.

I think they want the Lone Ranger to be the next POTC.

Bumping this thread since the Ozland rumors are going around again and the Lone Ranger came out this month.

If you must choose one (or both), would you rather have: Oz, a theme that Walt wanted in his park and are books about fantasy or Lone Ranger , fits the Frontierland theme perfectly (cowboys, native americans, train, etc) but is flopping at the movies.

^neither....make a new subland based off the Native America's west...or a little mine town with a new ride...based off history and a bit of imagination

First, the movie doing well is not necessarily a prerequisite for getting a ride. Alice in Wonderland was a disappointment when it first came out yet it has two rides and a shop in the park.

That said, I would prefer that neither of these ideas are used. I would prefer an original, western-themed idea.

Personally, I liked Wizard of Oz better as a movie, but I think Lone Ranger is a MUCH better fit for Disneyland, especially if you use the BBQ/Circle D area. Wizard of Oz doesn't fit any of the themes at Disneyland, but I could see it make an addition off of Paradise Pier. Create a "transition area" from the fair where he began into Oz. (pretending they have space for that)

Except this has nothing to do with California. However, the parts of the story that took place in the real world would be fine for Disney Kansas Adventure.

Lone ranger sucks. Oz has way better theme park potential and is more marketable.

So you are telling me there is a chance for the Lone Ranger.

How likely is it for Disney to make a ride that is not based on a movie or tv show for the American parks?

I'm afraid LR might be the only chance of getting a Frontierland (western themed) expansion or they might just settle for Woody

I'd personally much rather another Pixar ride based on Woody's old adventures than Lone Rearranger. Just sayin'.
