Can I really take my toddler on Pirates?

So I looked up all the rides that have no height requirement and this is one of them. I am just surprised is all. I have only been to DL twice (we go to WDW all the time but not since we had the toddler) and I am trying to remember pirates...doesn't it have a small hill? If I am remembering correctly, you're not exactly secured in either. I know this is one of those parent discretion type things and probably meant for short kids who are old enough to understand lol. But technically a parent could take a baby on it? I am just having a hard time picturing this.

Thoughts? Any other rides you think that are not young toddler appropriate that doesn't have a height requirement?

    Thanks!

P.S. Toddler will be almost 21 months when we go.

All of my children have been on Pirates since before toddler age. They never had any real problems with it. You may end up with her in your lap, though. Still you know your daughter, so you have to follow her lead.

You could have your toddler in your lap, but there is a small drop at the beginning so it is your choice. Having said that, it is a must attraction
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

You won't have any problems taking a young child on Pirates. The drops are mild. This is why you aren't secured in your seats. I have even seen newborns ride this one. My youngest was 18 months old the first time he went on and we didn't have any issues.

Re: Can I really take my toddler on Pirates?

My general rule of thumb is if there aren't safety restraints, it's probably ok for babies and toddlers.

Incidentally, this has also worked with Haunted Mansion, which my kids have never been afraid of. Just talk up the fun aspects of it. It's funny, not scary. Let them know what to expect. The biggest potential fright is (SPOILER) when the lights go out in the elevator, and everyone generally screams.
But, again, let her know that it's all make believe, and if she's with you, she's okay.

I took my oldest to the parks when she was just under a year and rode pirates just fine. Only dropped her I think twice. j/k There was no problem, also took her on mansion and was fine too.

sbk1234 general rule of thumb is accurate.

Do NOT. I repeat do NOT make the mistake of bringing your toddler on the Haunted Mansion. I went on the Haunted Mansion when I was too young and had nightmares and had to sleep with my light on for months. Please so a child switch for this ride if you must. POTC never really bothered me but some parts can be scary depending on the child.

Really? My 18 month old loved Haunted Mansion and pirates. I say you know your kid best, so it's always a judgment call.

Oh definitely. I always rode that ride with my eyes shut and my ears plugged until I was about maybe 8 years old. At that time my parents found out that one of their friends installed the air conditioning in that ride so he went with us and told me how everything worked. I think he was just giving me common sense because an air conditioning specialist wouldn't know how they did everything but I trusted him and the fact that he had something to do with the ride I believed him.

Everything was fine after that until they put in that dang knight!

Both of my boys were roughly 3 weeks old when they first visited the park. Each of them rode Pirates on their respective first visits. I think one of them even slept through both of the drops. You should be fine.

Re: Can I really take my toddler on Pirates?

Just goes to show how everyone is different. My daughters - who are older now than the toddler in question - always loved Haunted Mansion and POTC. I will say that as a child I was always afraid to go on it, but that was until I actually rode it. I always thought it would be scarier than it was.

Also, I hated that knight, too. I"m glad he didn't stay long!

It is going to depend on the temperament of your little one. My two boys' first trips were great for them as they were not afraid of anything. However the next couple trips the dark rides freaked them out. My advice based on my kids experience is if they can handle the dark rides you should be fine.

With that said, you will know your child best. I have seen many very little ones on Pirates though.
