I hope they have OMDD! I honestly had a blast! My friends and I showed up to the parks around 6:30ish and everything went pretty smooth. There was a line to get into the MF structure and another for the trams, and yet another for tickets and entry. But honestly the lines all moved fairly quickly and nothing I wouldn't expect during the summer.
I wouldn't say that my friends and I were the 'exception' because frankly that would make everyone that was with us in those lines the 'exception' as well, lol, which really wouldn't make it an 'exception' anymore now would it?
Frankly the only way I could see anyone not having a good time that night would be if they had strollers and small children, but then again I doubt toddlers or small kids would do well in any theme park passed 10-11pm. I actually had a laugh when I smelled weed in line for BTMRR and an older couple in their 50's sparked up a convo with me telling me how the smell brought back memories of when they visited Disney in their teens and twenties, hahaha...
I'm sure it was hell for the CM's working the lines, and dealing with people complaining about the lines and crowd , but overall I saw people having a good time. I'd go again in a heartbeat.
It's funny that the responses in this topic are either "No way" or "Can't wait!"
I'm kind of surprised that they're repeating a weekday start. That virtually guarantees an "afterwork" traffic jam. NYE is almost as popular as OMDD but it doesn't seem to cause all the headaches.
It also seems somewhat unfair to the Grad Nite attendees. It used to be the Grad Niters got the park all to themselves until the morning. Then it became a mix-in event that ends in the middle of the night. Now it's not even exclusive and I'm assuming they're still limited to DCA (though maybe they think being all-night compensates).
As of right now (12:56PM 3/29/2013) there's still nothing on Google news about this.
There's people who can't take crowds... but I can take them when I know it's just going to be absolutely crazy and I'm there just to be there. You need to go on a different mind set or setting to really enjoy it.
I think the reason I didn't like OMDD was because I live in WA state and so it was a trip I only get to make once a year at most, so I wanted to see/do as much as I could and it got so crowded in the evening that I was able to do LESS. Which, for me, defeated the purpose. Which is why we left around mignight and came back the next day when we could stroll and browse and take in the sights without the crowds blocking the way and we could walk right onto the rides, which was nice.
Last year was incredibly fun. Though the crowds sucked from 8pm to 6am, it was a riot just to be there. Hopefully with DCA open as well, the crowds could potentially be split in half-ish. Another good difference between the two will be a 30 degree rise, thank goodness--last year was freezing!! If I wasn't already going out of town, I would be there in a heartbeat
