    animatronic pirates on PoC?

Just a thought that crossed my mind. Do you think Disney will ever update the look of all the pirates on PoC? And I mean making them all look realistic like Cpt. Jack Sparrow. Or will they forever leave the cartoon looking pirates alone? Not that it matters much to me, I'll like the ride no matter what. But with today technology, I would think that they have thought of this and other numerous ways of plussing this ride, besides adding movie characters of coarse.

I'm not sure that changing their looks would be a plus. To me, part of the charm is the cartoony-looking pirates. It makes the ride more whimsical and fun.

I have to agree with kirstenh. Part of the charm is definitely the slower moving AA's. I'd be afraid that they'd over do it by giving all of the AA's realistic movement and the whole attraction will be too busy.

Making them look too realistic would take away their 'larger than life' charm of romanticized piratism.

    Keep em exaggerated.

I'm going to agree with the consensus here. Marc Davis' work is classic and should not be altered. The Jack Sparrow AAs are extremely impressive, but, unfortunately, they're stuck in bland situations that lack the charm and the storytelling of Marc Davis'.

Yeah, I actually wish they had done the new AA's head sculpts in a more whimsical Marc Davis style to fit in better with the existing figures.

My beef with the modern PotC is that it's too obvious what's original and what's been tacked on.

I never heard anyone refer to the addition of movie characters as "plussing" the ride. If they really wanted to improve things, they would remove the movie stuff and restore the original dialog and audio.

IMO, pirates is still by far the best ride disney or anyone else has made in the industry bar none. The slight changes made here and there over the years do not hinder it, but changing it wholesale would

    I agree with this.

The movie additions are hit or miss, but overall they don't bother me too terribly and don't hinder my enjoyment of the ride (although, the nonsensical addition of Blackbeard comes close). Even with the changes it's still the pinnacle of theme park attraction design.

Davey Jones is a much scarier character/villian than Blackbeard anyway.

There would definitely be some type of fanboy mutiny if the current pirates were modernized in any significant manner, myself included. It still upsets me to this day when I see the Pirates chasing the women because we are supposed to believe they are hungry and want that tray of food or hearing Barbossa scream for "Jack Sparrow". Blahhhhhh.

The pirates, with their cartoony and distinctly Marc Davis design, have become iconic Disney "characters" in their own right, so it would be really lame to completely change the way they look.

The classic animatronics are great. Like the others have said, I prefer they stay left alone.
