Well, reckon my heart's in Texas but right now I live down N'Olins way...
Re: Annette Funicello has passed away
I’ve been watching news coverage of Annette’s passing and I’ve noticed that so many young folks around today have absolutely no idea how much we loved her.
I was lucky enough…I was setting in front of our small black and white TV set back in September of 1955 when the Mickey Mouse Club first appeared.
That show was a thing of the heart…something that inspired us, excited us, enchanted us…and became a part of us.
At the end Jimmy Dodd and the Mouseketeers sang… “Through the years we’ll all be friends no matter where we’ll be…M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse forever let us hold our banner high. And, now it’s time to say goodbye to all our company… M-I-C See you real soon. K-E-Y Why? Because we like you! M-O-U-S-E…”
Annette Funicello was a shining jewel for our world…a shining jewel presented to us by Walt Disney…she has brightened and enriched our lives…millions of us really did, really do…and always will…love her...with all our hearts. Forever ain’t over yet.
Wild Ol’ Dan
"I can see the cattle grazin' o'er the hills at early morn… I can see the campfires smokin’ at the breaking of the dawn, I can hear the bronco's neighin', I can hear the cowboys sing, I'd like to be in Texas for the Round-up in the Spring."
From the first time I saw the Mickey Mouse Club in October 1955, Annette became my favorite Mouseketeer. She might not have been the best singer, dancer or actress but she had a sparkle that caught everyone's eye. All us little girls wanted to be her and all the little boys wanted her to be their girlfriend. Bless you, Annette. You will be well remembered.
