We stayed at the GCH on the last trip. Totally recommended, but this was a "spared-no-expense" kind of trip. We did the concierge level -- it was awesome. Blows every other hotel we've stayed at in the past out of the water.
Honestly, I couldn't even tell you. I procrastinated in booking the room and when I was finally ready to pay for it, all the standard GCH rooms were booked. I just absorbed the extra cost, and the concierge level ended up being the highlight of our trip.
Every morning half of our group would head to the lounge in our PJs, and we'd eat breakfast on the balcony and watched the monorail trains zip past. It was a pretty sweet way to wake up. Then there was the added perk of taking breakfast back to the room. It wasn't anything too fancy -- bagels, cereal, fruit, etc. It was probably the most relaxing bit of the trip.
The added cost probably delayed the next trip by a year or so, but everyone in our party agreed that it was worth it, and we'll definitely stay on the concierge level again.
this trip for us is a "spare-no-expense" type of trip too -- since our APs expire and we are not re-newing :-(
So here are my options:
Standard Room at Grand California
Upper Level Resort View at DLH (fireworks only scheduled for Sunday night)
I have to make a choice and book this Friday!!!!
I would pick the DLH. I think the rooms have more Disney magic to them. Also the pools way better than the GC. The only downfall, it is a long walk unless of course your in Dland and take the monorail back.
GCH feels more like a Disney themed hotel inside and out so I would go with that for a standard room. If I could afford the suites I would chose one of the themed suites in DLH.
Last year we stayed at the DLH and so this time we are going to split our stay.
7 nights at the DLH (because it IS awesome) and
2 nights at GCH
so I booked an upper level resort view for our 4 night stay in May!! can't wait!
I think that was a smart choice. If you're paying that much for a room you don't want to look out your window and see a parking lot. I would have suggested the resort view. It probably was close to the same price as a standard room at GCH. The only way to stay at the GCH is with a premium view. We did that once, and it was awesome! We're staying at DLH during our next trip. We are going to get the premium, resort view. I am interested to see your trip report and the views you had from your hotel room once you get back! :)
