Wow! $234,850.00 in fines is pretty serious. A couple of the violations are labeled as "willful", meaning Disney was notified and chose to do nothing about it. I smell another price increase to offset the cost of construction and fines...

So does this mean we can expect safety rails to go up all over the exterior of Space Mountain?

Great detective work, simaand! Interesting read.

If fellow MC'ers don't want to wade through the 16 pages, here's the TL;dr (as I read it).

Violations are all for Space Mtn in relation to that contract worker injury last year (he slid down the roof), then other things that were discovered during Cal/OSHA inspections.

Most issues are worker safety related. One citation for an incorrectly located fire extinguisher, which could affect guest safety.

No specific mention of any other rides.

Re: Editors Note: Multiple Disneyland Attractions Closed by DOSH for Safety Reasons

Here's the latest update to our Editor's note with additional information:
Three E Ticket attractions at the Disneyland Resort have been suddenly closed this weekend. The Matterhorn, Space Mountain and Soarin' Over California are now closed indefinitely, after state DOSH investigators on Friday disciplined Disneyland for the accident last November where an outside contractor cleaning the Space Mountain roof slipped and was slightly injured. The closed attractions all have at least one backstage area that don't meet the state requirement of harnessed fall protection for any employee walkway with more than a 30 inch drop opposite a hand rail. Disneyland is rushing to find quick fixes for these backstage areas this weekend to satisfy DOSH, and several other E Tickets were delayed in opening by several hours Saturday morning for inspections. The rest of the Anaheim attractions will be inspected for DOSH compliance in the next few days, and more temporary closures are possible.

None of which has to do with Guest Safety and restriction can easily be but in place to protect employees while fixes are made. Government Regulations and Power hungry officials run amuck!

...and that is from DIRECT experience, not just a feeling out of thin air!

I thought OSHA deals with all the safety issues? Did OSHA become DOSH?

OSHA is DOSH. DOSH is the correct acronym, although some folks still say "Cal-OSHA". They address this on their website. Division of Occupational Safety and Health

It's still pretty mean-spirited to drop the hammer on Disney on a busy Saturday. Is there any reason why they didn't do this on a weekday?

I had hoped DOSH might have shut down the Matterhorn just because of uncomfortable seats.

More like Disney dimbulbs dropping the ball. These closures should come as no surprise to Disney. DOSH safety regulations are neither secret nor sudden -- Disney knows as well as DOSH what the rules are. They can't cry foul for not following them.

As for the usual screaming about regulation-Nazis lording it over the poor, honest business people, I call bs. People would scream for real if the amusement park industry wasn't strictly regulated. (Look up the history of why the DOSH hammer dropped on the California amusement park industry back in 2000. Hint: it wasn't because the industry was doing a swell job of keeping things safe!)
