I agree with many of these... it's funny how anywhere else, it would be kinda gross... it really is a musty, icky smell, but on pirates, you love it and are reminded of the ride and all the memories from it
(sadly not because my ACTUAL home smells like it, but because it makes me feel like I'm finally at my home away from home)....Plus due to heavy allergies and a highly underdeveloped sense of smell it's one of two scents that I can actually smell (the other being the menthol goodness of Icy Hot)
Evocative. What it evokes is subject to individual interpretation. For me, it's happy memories.
No less evocative, in my opinion, is the Matterhorn's effluvium--that musty "old ride" smell that conjures the joy of times past. The Calico Mine Train at Knott's has a similar smell, only that it's nearly strong enough to cause hallucinations.
I think there might be some confusion on what "smell" we're talking about?? There's the sewer smell in the outside part of the queue near the chowder place (because I think you walk right by the sewer line), and then there's the moldy, musty water smell inside of the building (which is the iconic smell people love).
