Question Upgrading Pass/Blockout Day Ticket Question

I currently have the Southern California Select annual pass. I'm possibly going on a Saturday this month to the park, so I know that I have to buy a blockout day ticket. I was planning on using the $70 ticket to upgrade to the Southern California pass after the day.

But I was wondering if I upgraded my pass that day (for the $60 difference) would I get a pass to let me in that day? Similar to if you buy your annual pass on a blockout day, they give you a ticket that you can use for that day. Do upgrades work the same way?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

You can upgrade but since your new AP isn't good on that day, you can't get in anyway.

You can buy a blockout ticket for the Saturdayand can apply it to the upgrade. Which BTW has to be done on the day the ticket is good for, you can't apply a used ticket later.

That's what I thought. Where do I do the upgrade at the end of the day? It used to be at the annual pass processing center in the park, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist anymore. Do I go to the ticket booth now to do it?

No, if you upgrade your pass on a Blocked day, you will recive a block-out ticket as part of the upgrade. Unless the rules have changed its been this way for years.

Re: Upgrading Pass/Blockout Day Ticket Question

Update: went to the park today to go on a blackout day. I paid the $60 to upgrade my pass and got a ticket that allowed me to go in. So I ended up saving $10 this way and getting a better pass than I had before!

thinking about it, it seems like if you were an over-optimizer (which some of us are ), a good route would be to buy the so cal cheapie pass then upgrade it as needed to whatever pass you originally wanted to get whenever you want to go on a blocked out date. this gets you 1 or 2 additional blocked out dates (i.e.. saturdays and holidays) over just buying the 2nd or 3rd tier pass. obviously if you were intending on getting the 4th tier then this wouldn't benefit you.

I actually never thought of it that way. I just figured if I was buying a blackout day pass, I might as well use it for the upgrade. But that is a good idea for next time.
