Re: You know what I just realized? DCA still sucks

I think DCA is a very solid park now, I'd much rather spend a full day at DCA than Universal Studios Hollywood. NOTHING will ever compare to DL, but I think DCA comes pretty close. I give it 2 thumbs up! =)

Also, the original poster seems to focus on the amount of rides there is to go on at DCA in comparison to DL. Ok, first of all, DCA will never have as many rides as DL so get that out of your head right now. DL has been around almost 60 years and DCA just 12, its really not fair to compare the 2 parks based on that fact. Secondly, the OP focuses so much on the rides but what about the shows? what about atmosphere? , the new DCA has added a TON of atmosphere and a huge nighttime spectacular World of Color. If you spent some time just taking in the vibe on Buena Vista St or watching a cool new show, you'd probably be able to spend more time at DCA.

Disney parks are meant to be sipped, not gulped down. Go to DCA next time and enjoy the vibe and take it slow. There is no need to run from ride to ride. Yea you can still go on your favorite attractions, all I am saying is take a few minutes to enjoy the scenery around you. I think thats the biggest issue you have with DCA is that you go there to hit as many rides as you can. Have an open mind and try to enjoy other things as well, theres no rush, take it all in.

    Just my 2cents.

I felt the exact same way after a 2.5-day trip! I went back for just one day and had a wonderful time. If you count EVERY show and ride and attraction, it would take up a very, very full day to do them all...I did all my favorites, some multiple times (yes, I love Mater's and rode it 4 times), and most the shows...I still missed some rides and attractions.

I wonder if DCA might be a bit more appealing to out-of-town people who can't just stop by any time it catches their fancy....especially those who know Disneyland backwards and forwards. I know one reason I like DCA so much is that there's so much new to be seen. (And the fact that it doesn't have the bottlenecks when crowds get big is also a plus.)

I have not visited the fully new version of DCA, but from what I have seen it looks much, much better than before. But i'll see for myself when I go sometime

DCA is still not my park of choice, because it's just not Disneyland. Nothing they can do will change that. I like Radiator Springs Racers, but the whole "plan ahead in order to ride thing" cuts down on our morning time when it's quiet at Disneyland. My only beef is that the food is better at DCA so we sometimes end up having to visit there just to eat lunch. Disneyland's food is really going downhill, even more so than it did 13 years ago in 2000.

We still feel that DCA is not worth the same admission price as Disneyland. It will be interesting to see what happens once the draw of Carsland plays out. For our visits we still go for a few hours and then back to Disneyland.

They need a mystic manor, a rockin roller coaster, a new monster inc ride or area, a couple new dark rides, and some retheming

Haven't been to DCA in 3 years until a week ago when we spent almost a full day there. I NEVER EVER thought I'd write this, but you know what I just realized? DCA rocks! I'm so happy with the changes. It finally feels like a Disney park.

When I had an annual pass years ago we would visit it often, nevertheless I was one of it's biggest critics. I pretty much thought they'd have to raze it in it's entirety and start from scratch (they could keep Soarin', but that's it). I was a combination of skeptical and hopeful when they announced all the changes. But now having actually seen the improvements, I can't believe how much better it is. I grew up with Disneyland in the 70's, DCA will never be as good for me, plus thematically it still has problems that will never be fixed, there's that berm issue and still seeing the powerlines which is a big deal for me. But Buena Vista St is beautiful, Carsland fantastic, the Pier makeover decent, the raft ride tons better without all the clutter. The individual components work well even if the dots don't always connect. There are plenty of kids out there who've grown up with both parks and prefer DCA to DL, it will be their sentimental favorite when they are older. I think DCA has finally begun to carve out it's place. I look forward to the next phase.

I think that DCA biggest weakness is the fact there is no berm. You can see Anaheim Convention Center from inside the park. I would not have a problem if that section was Hollywood land because than the outside buildings would not look so out of place but its supposed to be a seaside assessment park not a giant rollercoaster trying to hide the outside world of Anaheim.

Re: You know what I just realized? DCA still sucks

I am definitely in the minority here (in fact, I might be the only one that feels this way), but I actually prefer DCA 1.0 to DCA 2.0. There are definitely components of DCA 2.0 that I feel are much stronger, but as a whole I enjoyed the park much more a few years ago.

The design of the entrance, Cars Land, and even most of Paradise Pier have improved aesthetically, but the atmosphere isn't as good anymore. I know that sounds strange, but I felt that DCA 1.0 was very relaxing. I could easily enjoy the park at a leisurely pace and didn't feel overwhelmed by the sights and sounds. Now, the park just seems so loud and fast-paced.

I think there are two things that cause this for me: 1) most of the rides at DCA are outdoor rides, and 2) all the streetmosphere is hooked up to the sound systems.

The fact that most of the attractions are outdoors is exacerbated by the fact that they are all naturally loud rides and/or have obnoxious music or sound effects. Cars Land is a great example of this. RSR, LFT and MJJ are all very loud rides. Adding to that noise is the music from MJJ and the engine sound effects from RSR. The noise is just so overwhelming and it distracts from the natural ambience that they have created there.

I would definitely prefer spending a day at DCA circa 2001-2005 than the current iteration of the park.

I agree in a way, but I think my opinion is clouded by nostalgia. That sunburst on Screamin' will never be an appropriate substitute for the Mickey head, and the BGM that plays now will never compare to the Beach Boys and the Mamas and Papas.

DCA has improved a lot, but my personal preference is the park my family grew up in when we first started coming to the Disneyland Resort. We have a lot of fond memories that have sort of faded as the park was renovated I still love the park now, and can recognize its improvements but 1.0 will always hold a soft spot and I remember how shocked I was to hear it was getting overhauled.

Oh, and Golden Dreams was a great film.

1.0 was more relaxing indeed. my first time at dca was in 2006 or 07 and it was before 2.0 and it was enjoyable. now it is all do it very quickly.

I agree with this 100%!! They really got it right the last few years and especially with CL/BVS! These two alone has made the park feel like a real Disney park. I thought DCA SUCKED at opening and it mainly stayed that way until 2008 when TSMM opened and you slowly started to see the changes.

Put it this way, when DCA opened, it was the WORST Disney theme park I been to and I had been to them all (and this was 9 months before TDS opened making it feel that much crappier when they opened that) and 12 years later its now my 5th favorite theme park only behind DL, TDS, TDL and DLP! Considering there are 10 parks that pretty good! And its my second favorite second-gate park only behind TDS. So to go from the worse to the 5th only beaten by other MK parks and TDS says alot. Now its a full day park for me and there is just so much to keep busy I really just enjoy it on its own terms. Before I would go and 3 hours later want to get back to DL (and DL is on my mind the whole time). Now I probably can go half a day easily and spend 50/50 between both parks.

Again the park is not perfect but we have to remember DL is nearly 60 years old. DCA is 12! One is nearly a senior citizen the other isnt even a teenager yet so its going to take another decade or so to get to DL level.

The point is they are on the right track (finally) IMO! A few more dark rides and E tickets, maybe another big show, revamp HL a bit and maybe another new land in the future it will get there.

But whats sad is can you imagine if DCA in 2012 was the DCA we got in 2001? Can you imagine where it would be now if it started off on the right foot?

I do dislike the streetmosphere being in the sound system. Much prefer only being able to hear it if I'm right there watching it. Without everybody being mic'd. It's weird being a distance away and still hearing the show.

The last three times I have gone with friends to resort we have not stepped foot in Disneyland.

DCA does need more attractions especially some nice family rides. But the while new feel of the park has made the park so enjoyable.
We spent time sitting enjoying a drink or snacks and have fun seeing people really having a good time.

The atmosphere is much better but it still suffers from the same problems that DCA 1.0 had in that it doesn't know what kind of park it wants to be. It's a mish-mash calamity of randomly selected themes.
