You know how some of the music in Disneyland didn't start out as Disney music - from old standards to Broadway showtunes -but somehow fits. Is there any music that you hear and instantly think - "this would sound great in the park!" ?
This is a symphonic suite of songs from the Broadway musical Ragtime (Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty) that I can imagine being used in a special Fourth of July fireworks show:
Here's another one I can see being used for fireworks or some kind of nighttime spectacular. It's "Take Me to the World" from the ultra-obscure 1966 television musical Evening Primrose (Stephen Sondheim). This version is from a 2001 studio recording starring Theresa McCarthy and renowned California Screamin' carnival barker Neil Patrick Harris. I've directed the link to the soaring end of the song for my purposes here, but the whole song is great .
Of course I wouldn't expect the average Disneyland guest to know the original context - it actually works better if they don't, considering what happens to the characters after this song. But I think the lyrics could be used to mean something else.
And I can hear this as ambient music on Main Street or Paradise Pier:
(Though again, probably works better in DL if you don't know the context of the original song ).
BTW, I'd like to hear more original, written for the parks music too
