Official DIsney Publication admits that DCA is a "work in progress"

I just picked up a copy of the 2006 version of Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort: Expert Advice from the Inside Source, published by Disney Enterprises, Inc.

Let me quote from page 5, in the "A Word from the Editor" letter written by Jill Safro. Second Paragraph, second and third sentence.

While Disneyland Park is wonderfully familiar to us - practically a second home - Disney's California Adventure is a newer playing ground, and finding the best ways to take it in is an adventure in itself. (Even now, it remains a work in progress, with attractions such as the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror being added to further guest satification.)

By the same token, couldn't you say that Disneyland is a work-in-progress too since new things keep getting added to it as well?

But yeah, I know that's not the point they're trying to make. Basically they're saying that DCA is somewhat incomplete.

I would go so far as to say their tone is somewhat apologetic, trying to soften expectations in advance. And this from the official cheerleaders...

Oh, what a tangled web we weep when first we practice to be cheap.

Yes but isnt it also true of Disneyland when Walt said "Disneyland will never be complete". So cant we then apply it to all the Disney-parks? But I know it is difficult for new guests to take in the awkwardness of the park?

Which is slowly being turned around, thank you Matt!

I agree. Disneyland is also a work in progress.

Well, when there are people who preferred the parking lot there to the park, I would say it's more of a "rebuild to get rid of terrible reputation" in progress.

Re: Official DIsney Publication admits that DCA is a "work in progress"

I think the way theyre using "work-in-progress" here is clearly different than the way some of you are using "work-in-progress" for Disneyland.

They're saying that DCA is still working on finding its place and still working on becoming a solid destination. Unlike Disneyland where it already is a solid destination but still a work-in-progress because its constantly being added to.

Also notice that they deliberately refer to DCA as the work-in-progress and not Disneyland.

Theres no way to sugarcoat this one, folks. This is clearly not praise for DCA, but sort of a warning that its not quite up to par when seen next to Disneyland.

As long as there is no imagination in the corporate world, DCA will never be a full day.

If the decision rested with a corporate board interested only in pleasing stockholders, and not in one man with imagination to make something work that had never been done before, Disneyland would never have been built in the first place...

And because it's half a park, admission should be half as much as DL. As soon as management figures this out, DCA attendance will go up, up, up.

Who is Jill Safro? What position does she hold in the company?
