We'll not let Universal be the king of theme parks.

They need a New Attractions, New 3rd Park, a Marvel Store and Restaurant at Downtown Disney.

I think Disneyland has that iconic appeal that no other theme park can compete with. The hype might last for a bit in the beginning but DLR will always prevail.

A threat I think that's too high of a prediction. It will effect DLR though somewhat. To think DLR will be stagnant while ush expands doesn't make much sense to me though. Disney will add something to DLR if not multiple somethings Just my prediction of course.

It will be competition, which is a good thing in my opinion.

It may lower crowd levels, maybe force DL to make improvements, etc.

This will just spark a theme parks arms race between Disneyland and Universal like what happened in Florida in the 90s. It's not like TDA is as lazy as TDO after all.

I, too, am hoping the two parks will engage in an arms race.

Also, I will probably go to USH for the first time in my life to check it out.

Exactly this. Competition is the life blood and best quality of capitalism and generally ends in companies making themselves better not worse so I'm all for it.

    Here Here.

Competition is good, especially between these two.

It could be the same as in Orlando with Universal and Disney

Universal is firing back at Disney's opening volley and they are doing it with intelligence and the right amount of capital. Disney's next move is to properly fund a few more attractions that raise the bar for quality and detail in order for them to overtake the popularity of Harry Potter world.

The $1.6 billion is not all for Theme Parks. I imagine the park will get a relatively small portion of this. The plan includes substantial investment in the movie and TV production facilities as the NBC studios are relocating from Burbank as a result of the Comcast acquisition.

While it is good to see more investment in the park, TV and movie content is their big money maker.

I sincerely doubt that it'll start a race a la Orlando. Universal Hollywood is still, in my opinion, a way's off from reaching the quality level of its Orlando sister parks or Disneyland. However, I think it will definitely drive business to Universal and hopefully will encourage further growth and expansion there.

I think the only thing that will be a threat to Disney's domestic theme park business is Disney itself -- its creative laziness, its refusal to innovate, its inability to envision theme parks as anything more than platforms for marketing brands, its beancounter-heavy management hierarchy, its self-straightjacketing groupthink, its dysfunctional internal politics, and its culture of corporate arrogance.

While I'd hope for an arms race..... realistically, I know it won't happen... Universal Hollywood is more landlocked than Disney for the most part (unless they buy that golf course next-door) and if the Evolution plan and movements on Potter are anything to go by, I don't think they move quite as fast or efficiently as their Sisters in Orlando. Disney, more or less, has 2 solid days worth of stuff at it's park if you want to enjoy everything, not counting downtown disney, and it gets a boost from the resort crowds in that regard. Universal I'll say has maybe a bit over a day's worth of activity at best, but it also lacks on rides for the little ones. While they're both theme parks... I think it's a bit wise to say that Disney competes less with Universal in California than it does in Florida. So while we can hope for an arms race, it probably won't happen, and if it does, or if Universal scares them badly enough, they may announce another new-land, a big addition (read attraction or tomorrowland renovation) or consider rushing into the mythical third gate and go for a Marvel/Star Wars park as a proper Potter-slayer to the west (it's debatable wether or not they should do anyways though...)

Well, think about the rumors swirling around recently, while the universal project was already beginning to get underway...Star Wars, Tron, Monster's Inc. I'm sure this has got TDA's heads spinning.
