Re: What should we expect from the redone Big Thunder?

I am hoping for a somewhat faster pace ride seeing the track is new and smoother. I would love the once what I heard as a rumor that there where doors at the end of the last lift hill and it was suppose to open right as you started your decent. I know there are doors on both side of the tracks that were always stuck open before the refurb

That was a big rumor when WDW's MK's BTMRR got a rehual. Never came to fruition.

I'm just praying that they don't screw it up like they did the Matterhorn. Expectations were so high then & look how that worked out. The last thing that I want is to have to cross another attraction off the list because of a pain inducing experience.

i'm hoping and praying it wont be like the Matterhorn.....

the renovation for Matterhorn was a huge waste of time....the tracks maybe smoother, but it is a lot slower...it just wasnt as fun as it used to be.....

we rode on it once and that was it....i dont plan on riding it again for a very very long time

Hey Michael! Good to see you over here. I'll get to pass judgement in a few weeks, hopefully it isn't too bad.. The tracks were VERY rough before, but hopefully the rumors that it is much slower, albeit smoother aren't that accurate...

The track was never the problem with the Matterhorn. It's those godawful new bobsleds. I honestly can't figure out what they were thinking with that design. It's like they designed them without testing them out on actual humans. What a missed opportunity. I usually ride it once during my DL trip just to have the experience (mostly for nostalgia), but it's a painful and often headache-inducing experience.

I would really like for them to keep the old lapbars. You are not in any real danger of sliding out, but it does feel that way. However, given how society is now with lawsuits, I can see them going to a MUCH tighter or double lap bars. (But this could limit ridership, as I have seen 3 people many times in those seats!)

Really, as long as the goat trick is still possible, I will be happy

Hoping they put the back drive wheel on the trains again. I hate how they look without it. I know they took them off after the crash in 2003. I know its just cosmetic and doesn't effect the actual ride much but I miss it. I also hope they keep the lap bars the same as well.

I just hope all effects are working...things look as nice as ever...and I would not get mad if they added some stuff to the Q either but after the Matterhorn going down for so long and nothing really added to the inside of the ride...I'm not expecting much

I think one of the main things that took so much time with Space Mountain is that it had to be torn down and rebuilt indoors. With BTMRR they have the luxury of open air and can just drop in that giant crane to quickly move parts around.
