How much has Disneyland changed over the years?

In its nearly 58 years of existence, Disneyland has opened its doors to kids in penny loafers, fancy hats, orange leisure suits and shorts of the plaid, bermuda, and supershort varieties. "But as these incredible pictures show, despite continually attracting children from different generations, little has actually changed." As you can see in all these then and now photos.
Wow, what a great article, now for a dose of reality. Just because the exterior of the shops on Main Street look very much like they did in the 50's (especially if you compare current pics to early black and whites), it says nothing about what is going on inside.

Take a look at this article, you may enjoy the photo comparisons, but I'll be surprised if the "little has actually changed" comment doesn't get thoroughly debunked here on our site.

Well, I realize not everyone is up on which park is which, 'experts', etc, but an article claiming to make a thesis about the original Disneyland not changing much including multiple photos of Magic Kingdom and stating openly they are Disneyland automatically loses all credibility for me. It's called basic research, article writers.

No kidding the pic of Pirates of the Caribbean (which wasn't even an opening day attraction) is from the one which opened in FLORIDA. And how long ago was the "NOW" pic taken on the railroad? Those train cars haven't been seen in decades.

I like this one, a worker is "pictured painting on the tram tracks" on Main Street.
I think he's oiling them, maybe? They're not just fake lines painted on the street!

"Apart from a few extra trees and fairy lights, this building [Main Street Opera] still stands proudly in the famous theme park, just as did in the late 1950s"

Uh, yeah, except for the 'fairy lights' very authentic!

Uh, Florida again, people. Same for your images of Small World.

This is why England can't have nice things like Euro Disneyland.

Re: How much has Disneyland changed over the years?

The sloppy research of the Daily Mail article isn't surprising...

The Daily Mail (aka, Daily Fail, Daily Heil, and so on), is a reactionary tabloid rag masquerading as a "traditional values," middle-class newspaper that is, in many ways, the worst of the British gutter press (only Rupert Murdoch's Sun is worse). Its weighty Sunday counterpart is the Mail on Sunday.

The Daily Mail is to the U.K. what the New York Post is to the United States, and what the Drudge Report is to the Internet: to wit, gossipy tabloid "journalism" for those who cannot digest serious news, with a flippantly wingnut editorial stance. The Daily Mail is notable among British tabloids for rejecting the standard red-top banner order to try to appear more upmarket and respectable, although it does sometimes go in for the full front-page picture or headline characteristic of the working class rags.

It is also notorious for its frequent harassment of individuals, campaigns of hate directed at various minorities, and willfully deceiving and lying to its readers.

Unfortunately this shows a large part of the UK's attitude to Disneyland. Just about anytime Disney theme parks are brought up in conversation you can just about guarantee to hear something along the lines of 'Theres a Disneyland in California?' or 'I thought there was only Disneylands in Florida and Paris?'

No photos of the vast changes in Tomorrowland either. That is okay though, they probably would have shown pictures from Florida.

However though, the truth is a lot remains the same, and a lot is very different in Disneyland. Time to visit Yesterland again...

Just to let you know, that link you posted is for RationalWiki. Even though it looks similar to Wikipedia (they use the same software) it is not an encyclopedia or a database compiling facts. Not saying whether good or bad, RationalWiki is not a neutral site, nor does it claim to be. Just thought to interject this into the discussion because my irony alarm went off.

"The thing that makes us different is our way of thinking, our judgement and experience acquired over the years. Giving it 'heart.' Others haven't understood the public. We developed a psychological approach to everything we do here. We seem to know when to 'tap the heart.' Others have hit the intellect. We can hit them in an emotional way. Those that appeal to the intellect only appeal to a very limited group. Let's not let the mechanics get in here and foul the whole thing." -Walt Disney

The captions were very repetitive and uninteresting. The editor could have done a better job.
