Tony Romas is pretty good too, and about the same distance from DL. A bit more $$, but the food there is considerably better than the Rainforest.
Another vote to skip the Rainforest Cafe. It was way overpriced and the food was far too rich to be enjoyable by anyone in our party (we do have one picky eater). The atmosphere in Rainforest Cafe is like no other, but you can experience the atmosphere by walking in, without dining there, and visiting the gift shop. Our meal was over $75 for two people, and we didn't have dessert. We both left more than half the food on our plates. We won't be going back. It was our first experience with a Rainforest Cafe anywhere, and our experience will definitely keep us away from the chain.
Don't waste your money on Rainforest Cafe. You're paying for the atmosphere. The food is mediocre at best. I would say save the money and enjoy a nice meal at the Carthay Circle Restaurant instead. If you're set on eating at Downtown Disney that night, you can get a better meal at House of Blues.
I've always gotten great food and service at Brenon's Jazz Kitchen... Recommend it highly.
Skip it. The one here is just horrible. Not worth the time or the money. I second those who say to visit the Jazz Kitchen. They have fabulous burgers during lunch time. Dinner is a little pricey, but much better quality than you would get at Rainforest Cafe.
My complaint wiht Rainforest Cafe is that it's a chain restaurant and there are 2 within a 3 min. drive of where I live. I only get to go to Disneyland once a year for about 4 days so I'd rather eat somewhere that you can only eat at Disneyland and do Rainforest when I'm at home.
It's OK but like many other have said, it's not worth the money. I remember the last time I ate there I kept thinking I could have gotten a better hamburger at In and Out.
The gift shop is fun to explore but most of the items are so-so. The plush selection could be better. Right now there's a lot of designer print and pink plush instead of realistic animals.
There is always a sales rack filled with clothes and there's almost always a special on glassware.
