Re: Years back, my first visit to Disneyland

I just went into our collection of slide trays, which have yet to be transferred into digital means. I looked through the 1967 trays, which contained ZERO photos of Disneyland. When my mom's journal commented on my camera not working, I guess she meant that!

Sorry about that. Somewhere around here I have some 1977 photos....color photos, rather than slides.

Re: Years back, my first visit to Disneyland

I spent some time with my parents this past week, and my dad was able to find the family photos from our first trip to Disneyland back in June, 1967. These were slides, not sure what camera they were using back then, and they have been scanned and converted to digital means about 3 or 4 years ago. Some have lost some of their color.

Sleeping Beauty Castle doesn't look like it's changed all that much, does it?

We must have headed off towards either Tomorrowland or Fantasyland. Here was my mom's first photo of the Matterhorn. Off to the right, you can see how the Monsanto House of the Future was positioned, where Tinkerbell's Grotto is now.

Whoops! Steer LEFT and head for Adventureland instead. Photo time! Yup, that's me ... too many years ago!

Now this looks cool. Let's go for a ride on the African Queen, on the Jungle Cruise! It's comforting that some of the same things are still around, yes?

We love trains – let's ride the train around the park and see what we haven't been to yet.

OK, so we've missed Tomorrowland. Let's check it out. This first photo isn't exactly the best, because it's out of focus, but I'm including it because of the characters that once roamed TL.

We haven't had enough fun yet. Let's check out Fantasyland!

From Casey Jr's Train, I believe. Here's a nice view of the old sailing ship that used to be in Fantasyland:

Dad loved Small World so much that we bought extra “E tickets” to ride it twice!

And let's not forget the trip on the Skyway buckets! Wave to the mermaid in the lagoon!

This is so cool! What I would give to have had my parents journal about my first trip to DL in the 70's!

Actually, for a family of 4 $248 is VERY cheap. Admission to a single park for one day for 4 people today is about $368, so throw in drinks and souvenirs and $248 is a bargain.

You really had a fantastic experience when you there with your family back in 1967! It's good to know that you have great memories of your first trip to Disneyland in it's true prime.

Thanks for sharing your pictures and experiences. Positive memories should always be preserved.

pretty much one of the greatest pictures I've ever seen.

Monorail. People mover. Skyway. Tomorrowland terrace. And the infamous DL Astronauts All in one shot.

    Classic.

These are some of the most amazing pictures I've seen on this site! And I'm really impressed with the clarity of these. When I think of pictures from the 60's, I think of washed out, blurry photos, which these are not at all!

    Thanks so much for posting!!!

LOVE the photos! It's always so interesting to see what the Jungle Cruise looked like before all the foliage grew in as much as it did today!

One of the reasons that my parents almost always took slides (instead of prints) was that they seemed to have a longer hold on the color.

It will be interesting to see what happens to some of our digital photos, in 40 years. Will we be able to access them on our CD or DVD (assuming that we back them up from the hard drive)? I know accessing our slides wasn't easy, as the projector broke and they're very, very expensive to repair if at all, because of accessibility to parts. Fortunately, our scanners came with the equipment for transferring slides to digital means. (My parents kept their slides, but took them out of the carousels and gave away said carousels...too bulky!) Hopefully we will be able to view the digital ones, 45 years from now, somehow!

That journal and those photos are a gold mine. Thanks for sharing with us.
"You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer."

Love these, thanks for sharing! Happy you unearthed such treasures. The mermaids would be fabulous to see and I mourn for the original submarine ride...

Re: Years back, my first visit to Disneyland

I really enjoyed this post. I can barely remember my first trip it was in the 50's and about 13 years ago going through some old pictures found a ticket book from that trip as well as a really neat DL paper book. I will have to see if I can find it and post it soon. The memory that really stands out to me was our hotel only had a shower and being very young terrified of it. Funny what the mind remembers.
