Where is the abandoned Disney Oceanography building? Is it near the Submarine Voyage maintenance buildings?

The "Disney Oceanography" term is a hold over from the original Subs.

I believe it is the Subs maintenance building.

Paul Pressler was not the only nemesis .. in past Disneyland President history. Judson Green (the one just before Paul Pressler) had a mandate about closing older attractions in favor of new ones - Toontown. Under his rule - he let attractions in Tomorrowland close prematurely. And shuttering Skyway in the same time frame, along with the Keel Boats .. was all too easy in his hands.

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

The motor boats were a lot of fun and I miss them. I remember back in 1988 while in line a couple of security guards went to the loading dock. They later escorted a family that was soaking wet. I guess they were horsing around and fell out of their boats. I can still remember the mother looking straight at me and yelling "Don't Laugh" as security led her away.

My "research" says that it was Gummi Glen for 8-months and from 11/10/91 until it closed for good on 1/11/93 it was indeed changed backed to the OG Motor Boat Cruise (though I don't have any visual evidence.)

    From Dave Smith's DISNEY A to Z:

"Motor Boat Cruise: Fantasyland attractions at Disneyland; opened in June 1957 and closed on January 11, 1993, with the area becoming Fantasia Gardens. In 1991 (March 15 to November 10) it was redecorated to become a special Motor Boat Cruise to Gummi Glen. This attraction was popular with children, who enjoyed piloting their crafts around the waterways under the autopia bridges and monorail beams, but adults found it pretty tame."

I personally think his last statement said it all, why it closed.

And when Dave Smith says "tame" he means "lame".

As Dave says, kids found them fun and I was certainly no exception. One of my fondest memories of my dad was on that attraction. I don't think I need for it to come back, but I do hope they find something else to put there.

Re: Motor Boats why did they remove them?

I heard a rumour on the Disneyland Project Tracker that the area will be rethemed to a Tinkerbell Boat Ride, so we might get the boats back! However, we might not be able to control them...
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

Perhaps you were reading something that dates a few years back ... because Lutz said something about a "rumored Tinkerbell attraction for 2013" in one of his columns a few years ago.

Some things that get fed to Lutz .. don't happen. Like the latest rumor of subs and autopia going. Most likely, untrue.

My guess is because "motor boating" became a dirty term.

The Motorboat Cruise was my favorite attraction as a kid, even more so than Autopia. It was a great attraction that both children and adults could enjoy together.

Do what you will with the Motorboat Cruise area, but I sincerely hope they won't ever rip out the autopia/submarines and monorail area. I love how everything fits together and it's quintessentially Disneyland.

As other people said, probably maintenance, but more of the main reason: They sucked!

Even riding them as a kid they sucked hard. I just didnt see the point when all you did was push the gas pedal down. At least the Autopia you can somewhat steer.

I wish they would build something in that area again but something completely new and different.
