Is Trader Sam's a good dinner option?

I've never been to Trader Sam's before (even though I'm a local and an AP holder) and thinking of heading down to the resort this weekend. Not sure if I'll go into the park, but wanted to try something new for dinner. Is this a good dinner choice? If not, what is it more suited for? Thanks!

The food is interesting, but your mileage depends basically if want a sandwich, fish tacos, appetizer plate or a small pizza/flatbread for dinner. Trader Sam's is definitely worth a visit, great ambiance, good staff, decent drinks and food tasty but depending on your appetite, it may not fill you up based on a single item.

How doable is it to grab some kid's meals from Tangaroa Terrace and eat where we can get the decent drinks? We are going with my ILs and I know they'd love Trader Sams; as would I...but the tiny people with us are picky little buggers.

Edit: And yes, I've been lurking for 8 years :P

The patio area is open for seating and can order the Trader Sam's menu there, no reason can't bring the kid's meals over so long as orders from the dedicated menu at TS as well, I'd think.

Is it a good place for Dinner?

Depends on your group! If you have a lot of kids, maybe it's not the best spot unless you get a table or sit outside.

But if you're with a small group, Trader Sam's is a rockin' good time. Get a nice rum cocktail and order an assortment of food items.

Pupu platter is about $15.99 and comes with pork wings, chicken wings, fried string beans, and a papaya slaw.

The cheeseburger is also strong (but it used to be better) and has pineapple, bacon, teriyaki sauce, etc. The sweet potato fries are great. It's about $10.99 I think.

The chicken sandwich is also great! Also around $10.99.

The Tuna Poke is actually MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE tuna poke anywhere... i think it's about $12.99 or so. Be friends with your bartender and they may give you extra chips if you ask.

They also have flatbread pizzas for $8.99 or so.

So no, it's not a fancy place but it is unique from the park and in a fun atmosphere. I highly recommend it.

I couldn't say because I stay away from the park burgers but I think for the price its a pretty quality burger.

I believe all the burgers at the park have been upgraded to Angus Beef or whatever and are all priced pretty similarly. The great thing is that each location has unique stylings of burger (Tomorrowland Terrace, Village Haus, Hungry Bear, Tangora Terrace/Trader Sam's).

Re: Is Trader Sam's a good dinner option?

Trader Sams is a super fun atmosphere, though in my opinion it's much more suited to drinks. If you have kids, you cannot sit at the bar and must use one of the few tables around the perimeter or go outside. It's pretty dark inside. If you want the full experience, sit at the bar. I've had the food at Tangora Terrace and found it to be mediocre at best, but I have not ordered anything but drinks from Trader Sams menu.
