Looks like specialized cast members with required 3-5 years experiance in climbing, repelling and other similar activities.
Peter Pan: "You know, your hair is on fire."
Me: "Yes. It happened after a recent trip to Neverland."
Peter Pan: "Well, you can dunk your head in the pond behind us, if you want."

As a climber myself...i remember seeing them years ago and think "how cool"
...then my next thought was "wow the Matterhorn is actually REALLY small when you see it in relation to an actual person on it and not just the forced perspective!"
That's what I've always thought, and I am surprised that Disney ever even started with the Matterhorn climbers for that reason. But I'm sure it's a lot of fun for the few people who ever actually get to climb it!

Wouldn't surprise me if there are a few "high rollers" who would spend big bucks to climb the Matterhorn. Tandem skydiving, which seems much more dangerous, can be accomplished in a half day for a fairly low fee, for example.
