Re: Confirmed: No new park attraction announcements at d23

Wouldn't it be even more lame for the Imagineer in charge of D23 parks and resorts to drive away excitement by needlessly declaring that there will be no new product announcements. Also, in fact, at least 1 Disney exec. has verified publicly that all three of those projects were in the works. I didn't say anything about attraction lineups being announced.

    Just a little update.
Disney and More is reporting that the whole Tom Staggs Parks and Resort segment has been cancelled. It wont even take place, for there to be any surprise announcements. He goes on to say that his sources are telling him the reason is that 1. Avatar just isnt quite ready yet and the project is SOOOO secretive. He said no imagineers not working on the project are even allowed in the building. 2. They are worried about negative comments around Shanghai that might spook the Chinese and cause them to want changes. 3. Star Wars for DHS just isnt ready yet.
It doesnt seem like the ever had any intentions of DLR announcements for D23, and personally, Im not so sure that this might have also had something to do with the cancellation. The conferance is in Anaheim and you announce all the incredible projects for WDW, Paris and Shanghai, and not so much as a new bathroom for DLR. I dont think that would have been extremely popular considering most of the attendees will be DL fans. Probably isnt the reason, but wouldnt shock me.

In past D23's has Disney ever promised "surprises" when it came to the parks & resorts segment? If so, what were they? Were they worth all the anticipation or were there letdowns?

If you read the article, it didn't seam at all that he was referring to attractions when talking about SURPRISES. There is no Parks and Resorts presentation this year. If you go on Disney and More, you can see the list of presentations and show room exhibits. Surprises, I believe, was referring to surprise Imagineer guests and topics.
It looks like as far as attractions are concerned, Mystic Manor will be a big focus of the show.

Anywho the safest expectation to have is to expect nothing. Especially when you were told nothings going to be announced. Take the event as what it is. At best we'll get incite on things already announced but moste likely we'll just get some more inside looks at things already built.

Its strange but even with six resorts does D23 have what it takes to be a real big convention? I've never been myself. Seems recently they can't even keep the Blue Sky Cellar running much of interest.
Well, there's always ABC and ESPN to hold the whole thing together.

I'm gonna take a stab and guess that they have failed to find a means to deal with the capacity nightmare that plagued the previous D23 Expo so it would be easier to cancel what would no doubt one of the if not THE most crowded panel in the entire Expo. The lack of announcements doesn't surprise me in the least anyway.

Well, one thing, given the early reviews... doesn't look like "The Lone Ranger" is going to be a ride. (although some of the reviewers stated it seemed like a ride tie-in was written into it).

The Hollywood Reporter is basically calling it a bomb.

What a shock. Another bad Disney live action movie. Man, I don't understand why they can't make a quality live action film.

I saw it and liked the movie. Depends on how much you like the Pirates films.

The Parks and Resorts panel wasn't the reason they wanted to double capacity. In fact if you wanted to - there was a good amount of time guests could have just walked right in and gotten a seat before filling up. It was the Movie Studio/Avengers panel that suffered from over-crowding and with a rumored Star Wars announcement in the works for D23, you better believe they are trying to get as much capacity as they can with that venue. As far of the rest of the con goes, capacity never seemed to be too much of an issue, especially in the exhibit hall, only the smaller rooms seemed to have issues with lines and what not. They've got that taken care of for the most part, especially after seeing how CCI masterfully converted the convention center for Wondercon which did not have the same problems D23 had even after selling out 2 of the 3 days.

In regards to the rumor of there not being any announcements planned for D23. That's just not true. There WILL be announcements made (some theme park related, some not). They'll just be made during their respected panels.

I'm sure they'll officially announce the Main Street Alley expansion and the rumored Fantasyland dark-ride upgrades: These don't qualify as "new attractions" I don't think, but I'm afraid they will be as "new" as we're gonna get this time around.
