Well DL is doing fine while DCA was struggling BAD. What would you do? At least for now, why would you devot resources to something successful when you have something that is dying and needs help? Just remember that DL may have not gotten a new attraction, but the DLR got a whole new theme park!!!

Why hasn't Bob Iger added a new E-ticket ride to Disneyland during his tenure? For the same reason that he promotes former Strategic Planning executives and Chief Financial Officers like Tom Staggs to be the head of Disney Parks: Iger is a corporate marketer, not a visionary. His goal is to maximize Disney Corp profits in the most risk-free manner possible, by acquiring and licensing already-popular brands and using Disney's domestic parks to promote them. The Walt Disney Company that created E-ticket icons like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion is long gone, along with the risk-taking management that ran it and the creative visionaries who staffed it.

To put it another way, the answer to the question is obvious to anyone who saw Steve Davison's original World of Color show before Iger gave his notes on it.

^^ THIS. Because buying Pixar and Marvel to make money for the film division is more important that the parks. Say what you want about Eisner but it was WAY more fun to be a park fan under Eisner than Iger.

Yeah, maybe for WDW fans. The Disneyland Resort wasn't doing well when Eisner was in office. We had the crappy 1998 reinvention of Tomorrowland, the debut of crappy California Adventure, multiple deaths happening at Disneyland, etc. The Disneyland Resort didn't thrive under Eisner.

Well, you could also look at it from another point of view. In the last 10 years DCA has added: Tot, Ariel, Midway Mania, CARs land, a new (awesome) night time water show and a whole new entrance complete with transportation. I would bet that now that DCA is up to snuff that DL will start getting it's due.

Because his attitude is this: Why build a new E-ticket at Disneyland when it is already making loads of cash while DCA is like a ghost town. Now that DCA is now doing much better, I expect DL to get new E-ticket attractions in the coming decade.

You do know Disney has a pretty high heirarchy, right? Bob isn't exaclty the sole decision maker for the theme parks, there are other people who make those decisions.

It's pretty much the idiot below him that "screw" everything up.

I, personally, wouldn't use WOC as an example. Attractions change all the time before they are built. Fortunately for us, we actually get to see attractions "in developement" which is something that we didn't have the luxury of long ago.

Disneyland's downward trend started when Wells (CFO) died.

And the ROI is not good enough, due to more than half the attendance, and most of whatever increase would occur, not increasing the revenue enough to make a project worthwhile.

Re: Why hasn't Bob Iger added a new E-ticket ride to Disneyland during his tenure as

My belief is that the Accountaneering columns are a good source for the cause. They had a need for major reinvestment (DCA) and did what needed to be done.

Back when the plans were still being chewed over there was a lot of speculation that they were clearing the decks of all Disneyland projects in favor of the emergency project across the Esplanade. The revitalization worked, and now I'm guessing that the focus is shifting towards two complimentary issues - working with Disneyland to tweak and revitalize and up the park's ride capacity paired with the goal of blunting the major thrust rolling in up the freeway at USH (and to a degree Knott's).

I would imagine that there are likely huge things in the offing... if you'll remember, back when the FL complex was looking at blue sky projects like Myst Island and were still digesting the pre-WWOHP Uni complex, there were a ton of VERY enticing and big ticket items on the block. They got modified, built, or dropped based on the on-the-ground results of the other additions in the area combined with the basic operational needs of the park.

It's dry, it's ugly number moments aplenty, but I very strongly believe it's what is going to rule this situation. I *suspect* that there will be a big e-ticket announce next season to blunt the thrust of USH's opening of the Despicable Me mini-land and attraction, and if there's a new "land" level of announce coming it's probably going to be held for use against further Harry Potter developments.

There's a war going on. A war with great big fun rides and awesome development that a park without this kind of competition would never dream of.

On the brighter side, California Adventure got an overhaul and Disneyland has been well maintained...

They could've let Disneyland just sit there and peel without doing anything to DCA.
