    question about sub lagoon

does anyone know what the huge cement grid in the middle of the sub lagoon is all about? Al, in his update today, said " now we know the story behind the mysterious grid pattern", but for some reason, i dont. Any info would be great, thanks! (sorry if this is a repost)

I read that too. I never knew why those were there, but I still don't, he didn't make it very clear.

They are expansion joints in the concrete. They were uncovered to seal them.

Have you ever looked at a sidewalk? Have you noticed the grooves across the concrete every few feet?

Those are called expansion joints. They are designed to crack when the cement expands instead of having a crack run across the entire piece of sidewalk.

The sub lagoon is the same way. Those grooves are there to control cracking of the concrete. Since the concrete was poured in 1958, I'm sure it has expanded and cracked along the preset grooves.

To control water leaking, they are filling the grooves with a filler to keep the lagoon water tight.
