Tokyo Updates Jungle Cruise - Is Anaheim's "Old & Tired" As Well?

From the Oriental Land Company's press release:

The revamped version of the attraction will have new lighting effects and other special show effects. In addition, a specially written musical sound track will be heard throughout the attraction for the first time in any Jungle Cruise. Also, an after-dark only “night cruise” will provide a unique take on the jungle adventure. The new Jungle Cruise will offer Guests an adventure that is even more thrilling than before. From on board the attraction’s boats, Guests will explore jungle landscapes full of wild animals with the help of their daring and comical skipper who guides them through the beauty and dangers of this exotic world. The adventure includes a startling encounter with one of the animal spirit guardians in the ruins of a lost jungle temple.

When TDL completes the Jungle Cruise makeover in 2014, it may end up eclipsing DLR's attraction. Should Disney plan the same thing for Anaheim?

hard to say. I kinda like the quiet, restful pace, getting away from the crowds for a few minutes. adding constant music would not be good....kinda like what they have done at baseball games....not one second of quiet anymore...

Perhaps we'll also receive this in time for the park's 60th Anniversary? If they were to close our ride down at the same exact time, or a little later in 2014, it'd be open just in time.

I sure hope not. While switching it up at night sounds interesting, animal "spirits", and music would detract from the ride, not compliment it.

I'm sure they will do some kind of updating to co-inside with the release of the live-action Jungle Cruise movie that was recently announced...

Last news from April is that the movie is a no-go.

hmm sounds interesting. i'm all for keeping the classics classic, but a "night cruise" could get me on the ride more than once a visit. i guess i'd have to see it to make a judgement, but if they keep it subtle it doesn't sound terrible.

he might be talking about the live-action jungle book, not jungle cruise, that was announced a few days ago.

Although I am extremely excited for Tokyo's Jungle Cruise update, it does sound like a massive change to the classic. I personally prefer the idea of a more serious and adventurous Jungle Cruise.

However, I could see how those that appreciate the dry-humor and more slapstick style would be opposed to the change.

The Jungle Cruise is one of my favorite rides at DL, mainly because it is still pretty much original.

It seems that when just about any ride is revamped, the quality goes down. Imagineering seems to be bent on pushing some sort of gimmick rather than creation of an immersive experience.

In my opinion, until TDC can get some innovative, cutting edge people as imagineers (who are actually willing to take chances once in a while), instead of the current crop of well trained corporate minions, they need to leave the classics alone.

Another live action Jungle Book movie?

This is getting ridiculous. Lone Ranger - Flop. John Carter - Flop. White House Down - Flop. Pacific Rim - Flopping.

How long is it going to take until Hollywood completely implodes in on itself like an old Vegas casino?

Anyway, on topic - no. Let's keep it as it is. There is something about the way things are done that are timeless. Seems to me there's just not enough imagination left to make any change worthwhile.

Disney won't upgrade the attraction because another park's version surpasses it. Disney however, will upgrade the attraction when the attendance counts are down on a consistent basis and thankfully that isn't the case right now.

It would be nice if they would do something. I find the Jungle Cruise very dated and old looking, think its time to modernize it somehow.

I'd be perfectly happy if they make the waterfall a full roaring one again instead of the leaky faucet drip they have now.
