When has that been "clearly established"?

Its for the Jungle Cruise Expansion... the canal will be re routed to turn into a cave in Schweizer falls, drop down a few flumes like on Pirates of the Caribbean, go through a South American underwater river system, before exiting up at Cars land with the back side of dirt to compliment the backside of water. Don't take it for granite.

I agree, if Disney couldn't afford to do both back and front they shouldn't have attempted a project of this scale to begin with. I would also argue that internally the attraction itself doesn't even live up to the exterior's quality and scale. Instead of putting this much money into rock work they should have used it for creating a better attraction.

Personally, I think the mountain range is one of the most well done areas in the park, especially backdrop-wise. It's absolutely stunning. Is the backside viewable from within the park? It's never been an issue for me if it is.

I am staying at a hotel on Katella and from my side, it still looks kind of unattractive. Maybe they are not totally done yet?

I remember reading up somewhere that Disneyland and California Adventures are made in the sense that it's a theatrical play, or a movie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the back side of Cars Land supposed to resemble the back side of a structure for a movie prop or backdrop? With all those wooden beams, and whatnot.

But is it possible that they're covering it up with sheets because they're planning on doing something in there? They do the same thing when they do renovations for buildings on Main Street.

As to the first part - no, Cars Land is not themed as a 'movie set', nor is any of Disneyland, meaning artificial 'support structures' or an idea you're entering a purposefully fictional zone as part of the attraction story. Some areas in Disney parks have had that themeing in the past - the entrance of Monsters Inc. at DCA has a flat front with movie studio type writing/'prop department' labels on the back, and the Sci Fi Dine-In and Star Tours at Disney Hollywood Studios both had similar treatments inside their buildings, with a plywood/backstage stall visible before entering the themed zone.

No worries, Disney has used such before in their parks (as I noted), but it's not a 'universal conceit' for their themed areas is all.

I just drove by the back side of DCA. I couldn't see any if the tarps or sheets set up. Maybe they removed it? But then again, it's pretty dark. Will check again in the morning.
