Disneyland Hotel Vintage Pictures & Footage

Last week, I received the following e-mail message:

    Hi Don,

Don't know if you got my first attempt to email you, so thought I would try again. I was doing some research for my mother's memorial service and stumbledupon your site. You see, my family was very much a part of the history of thehotel. I have not got your book yet so I don't know if you know about them.

My grandfather, Jimmy Lenti was the first Matri d and banquet manager at thehotel. He was there from the beginning until 1963. I am not certain, but Ibelieve he had met Mr Wrather when he was working at the Palladium inHollywood. I do know that he had met Bonita there because I have pictures.

My mom also sang at the Gourmet during the sixties. Originally it was with hertrio, The Dorise Van Trio, but she had a very long and successful run with agentlemen named Bill McClure and they were known as "The Two of Us."

All of us were fond of the Wrathers as well as Mr Werder. I have several photosof banquets at the hotel, some with Mr Daly and some with Bonita and one of mygrandfather shaking hands with the ambassador from Lebanon!

I myself worked at the park from 1967-71(Sunkist on Main St and Sunkist IPresume across from the Jungle Cruise).
Just thought I should contact you and see if you would like to use some of theinformation or photos. I really am enjoying seeing all this history.

    Thanks so much,
    Kris Van Hook

Since this e-mail, Kris has sent me many pictures from his families affiliation with the Wrathers and the Disneyland Hotel and I wanted to share those with you all. I just love receiving e-mails like this!!

First of all, here is a picture of Mr. Lenti with Bonita Granville-Wrather and her Mother-In-Law, Mazie Wrather from the August 1956 Grand Opening of the Disneyland Hotel

Next is Mr. Lenti in the upstairs banquet room at the Disneyland Hotel with Hotel first manager Don J. Daley

Next is again upstairs in the banquet room at the Disneyland Hotel in the mid-1950's

At poolside also from the mid-50's

Here is a wonderful, outdoor banquet spread poolside at the Disneyland Hotel in the 1950's.

Again, from the banquet room for a special event or gathering in the 1950's. Irene Dunne is also pointed out in the photograph. Didn't she dedicate the Mark Twain at Disneyland?

And now, a really special couple of pictures with actress Jayne Mansfield at the Disneyland Hotel

And now, here is a video clip from June 1957 which shows Mr. Lenti during a Telerama at the Disneyland Hotel for the City of Hope Hospital fundraiser. Mr. Lenti appears about 52 seconds into the video wearing a bow-tie and standing at the back of the table.

    Great stuff as always!
"You can cut me off from the civilized world. You can incarcerate me with two moronic cellmates. You can torture me with your thrice daily swill, but you cannot break the spirit of a Winchester. My voice shall be heard from this wilderness and I shall be delivered from this fetid and festering sewer."

Early pics of Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel never fail to impress me. How I wish we all still treated a trip to the Park and/or Hotel with that kind of style and sense of specialness...

Kris has forwarded me much information and photographs of his mother which I will also share with you.

This is the Dorise Van Trio with Norman Parker on piano and Bill Stewart on bass. This group played at the Disneyland Hotel in the early 1960's.
