    Soarin' Question...

While riding Soarin' Over California yesterday, I noticed that the final scene over Disneyland showed the castle decorated for the 50th. Vic said she thought the rest of the scene was as it has always been. Did they reshoot it? If so... it must have been recent since it depicts Main St. at Christmas. Or did they CGI the golden crowns and the rest of the 50th castle ornaments?

That wasn't the 50th Anniversary decorations. It was the old Chirstmas decorations on the castle.

Well that is news to me. It had always been decorated with the cristmas floats. They filmed the scene after hours, and parked all the floats on main street. So you are saying that you know for a fact that they added the crowns themselves?

I was just on it last Thursday and it was just the regular old Christmas decorations and none of the 50th stuff.

Actually, they filmed the flyover during a Cast Member Holiday party.

    Re: Soarin' Question...

Well... maybe I mistook normal Christmas decorations for the crowns. Unfortunately, when leaving the Uva bar last night, I accidently left my credit card. Now Vic and I are going to have to go back to DLR tomorrow to retrieve it. I guess we'll just have to spend the day in the parks again... and I'll take a closer look while on Soarin'.

Yes, the footage was shot at Cast Member Holiday party. My brother was there that night and they were told not to look at the helicopter coming in for the filming.

    Cheers!

    Re: Soarin' Question...

From a technical standpoint, I don't believe the equipment exists to do the kind of digital edit that would be required to add the artwork to the castle on such a large format film. The only way would be to reshoot it, and I just don't see them going through that kind of effort for something so subtle.

That explains why it's a Christmas shot, then, and why they haven't updated it. A CM party is probably the only time I can think of when you could get a shot of the park where it was full and active that didn't have a ton of people stopping to watch the helicopter. It would be nice to see them do something other than Christmas, though, but it would be really, really hard to get the shot.
