Captain EO Closing (for refurbishment?) In September

Just was checking the Disneyland calendar and Captain EO will be closed Sep 11th through the end of the current calendar, Sep 26th. Not sure if/when it will re-open. Anybody know more?

If you take a look at more recent updates, there's a lot of rumors flying around of an impending Star Wars retheme to at least portions of the area, and rumors of several different attractions (everything from Monsters Laugh Floor through the current leader of "An unannounced Star Wars 3-D movie") going in.

    Nothing concrete though.

Al's recent update made mention of it finally being shuttered to make way for a new theme.

Meh. Something else would be nice. Saw it once. Didn't like or dislike it. Was happy to see Angelica Houston in it. Hooter was unnecessary.. like the minions in Despicable Me.

Well, since they haven't even started shooting the new Star Wars 3-D movie, I'd say that is at least a year off, and probably more like two (presumably they will open it to coincide with Star Wars 7 when it opens in 2015), so I'd say that they probably are just refurbishing it and I would expect it to reopen at the end of the month. I mean, what else are they going to do with it in the meantime? It's not an expensive attraction to operate and there are some die-hard MJ fans out there who might make a special trip to DL to see it. In fact, it might make sense for Disney to announce that it's closing at the end of 2014 to try and get those die-hards to come see it before it goes away.

Sung to the John Williams theme by the same name in the vain of Bill Murry:

    Oh Star Wars,
    Nothing but Star Wars,
    Disney bought those Star Wars,
Now the war will never end.

    Oh Star Wars,
    Space Mt Tie Fighter Wars,
    More repeat value than cars
    Land.

Yes, have the Subs take us on a tour of Naboo,
And the Autopia can Landspeed over Tatooine
And hey, Darth Vader in his black and evil mask,
Can be a cool replacement for Mike and Angie.

    Oh Star Wars,
    Those endless Star Wars,
    ......wa, wa, wa, wa, waaaaa

I'd say that's a very likely guess. The continuing legal activities aren't really damaging the MJ brand any further so it's not as if they're facing likely blowback from any of it, but the brand's also kinda on the way out as far as current popularity. One last hurrah and then onto the shelf, replace with whatever.

I am very happy that I have seen it many times and that it is a great memory for me.....but it really is time to update the space. I enjoyed that Captain EO captured the awesomeness of Micheal the singer/dancer and I am ready for them to move on for sure with bigger and better! Weeeee!

oh no! things just got real!

i wonder if this was the attraction announcements they were talking about at D23. I hope to see CEO next year before they do away with the film.

I've heard of all the rumors about it closing, but this is pretty sudden. For something "beloved" I figured they would give it plenty of time from an announcement of closing to the time it actually does so everyone can go "one last time" to see it. Wasn't sure if anybody knew if this was really "it" or an opportunity to close it down and play with the space to work on the future replacement, to save on labor by not running it, or something else entirely.

Perhaps ... the commander considered them a bunch of losers .. and were drummed out of the corp?
