I think you may be reading a little too much into my username. I'm not the 4th Gen.... my kids are.

I remember DisneyLand pre-1983 FantasyLand makeover. I remember a LOT of "the original charm". Don't generalize me based on my screen name. You are really reaching here....

Guys, I'm pretty sure the dead horse has been beat into glue at this point. Take a breather, realize that you're fighting about a coffee shop at a theme park.

Wouldn't it be funny if some intern from Disney logged onto MiceAge and saw that there were 23 pages worth of discussion about Starbucks at Disneyland, and without reading any of them, assumed that there must be a huge demand for Starbucks, so Disney decided to open 10 new Starbucks stores instead of just the one?

You tell me, what will most visitors call it? Market House or Starbucks?

    Both
There is no right or wrong in this debate. It is simply a matter of perspective.

    Way to skate the question.
I will go out on a limb and say most will call it Starbucks.

I'm pretty sure that 90% of the casual visitors will call it the same thing that I do every time I've gone to the park - "that place on Main Street to get some coffee on the way in/way out". I'm being honest - it never occurred to me for *years* that the location had a specific name beyond whatever Disney needed to call it for internal reference. It didn't really seem to need one.

Do you think a Nordstroms sponsoring the Emporium is appropriate for Main Street U.S.A?
    No, not really. Here's why...

I can't imagine why or how Nordstrom would want to be there. Quite frankly, and as a hard working Disneylander this pains me to say this, Nordstrom is classier and is known for much better customer service than modern Disneyland is. So it would do more damage to the Nordstrom brand for them to be on Main Street USA, and I can't imagine why they would want to do a sponsorship deal with Disney for such a thing. But...

According to Wikipedia, Nordstrom started in Seattle (just like Starbucks apparently) in 1901 by Swedish immigrants. Nordstrom is the classic American success story built by hard working immigrants. I could easily see WDI piecing together the backstory of how these Swedes began their business on Main Street USA instead of Seattle; and then Imagineers put up their usual little nods to Nordstrom family history around the store and fake sepia-toned photographs of the Nordstrom family standing on Main Street in 1905, etc., etc.

But what would they sell? It wouldn't be the $500 cashmere sweaters and fancy dresses and expensive Italian shoes that your local Nordstrom sells. The Emporium, Presented by Nordstrom would still have to sell all the same Chinese-made plastic junk and hunks of Chinese-made vinylmation "collectibles" and cheap souvenirs and t-shirts they currently sell to theme park visitors.

There is no market for a full-fledged Nordstrom department store inside a Disney theme park, and I doubt there ever will be. It would just have to be a sponsorship agreement where the sponsor tacks their name on a service or concept inside the park, like Bekins Van Lines sponsoring the lockers, or Insurance of North America sponsoring the information center (you couldn't buy a policy there), or Gulf Oil sponsoring the Disneyland Opera House (you couldn't fill up the tank with Hi-Test there).

This is all very unlike Starbucks, where there was a specific and increasingly vocal market to offer Starbucks' exact goods and services inside Disney theme parks, using the Starbucks proprietary system of equipment and training and ingredients to make the desired product for sale to park guests.

But now that it will be, essentially, a Starbucks and word gets out, might that change and most will say "Hey lets go to Starbucks on Main Street and get a half caff"?

It might. They might also say "Hey, let's stop on Main Street and get some coffee on the way out."

Would it help if they used brass-railed queue instead of wooden?

Here's a few previous or existing Main Street USA queues used in high-capacity dining locations.
