    Exclamation Captain Eo Closing...

I saw on screamscape and on touring plans that the show will close for a 3 month rehab on friday the 13. Why would they give the theater a long rehab when the rumors state the show will close soon?????
    Has anybody else heard this?

I wouldn't be surprised if it did close for good...it's not really pulling in guests. I stopped in on Friday because I was tired and needed the a/c. The rest of the park was very busy and there were maybe 10 people in the theater with me. That says it all.

    Re: Captain Eo Closing...

I can't see them closing it permanently without an announcement to encourage people to go see it one last time, and buy some merchandise on their way out. It was supposed to close the 11th and re-open November 20th which would have it open in time to absorb Christmas crowds. I did however notice that it had been on the official rehab list up until a few days ago, but when they expanded the listed days to include October it is no longer listed as being closed at all. I guess we'll find out on the 11th if it's going down at all.

I disagree. When I have gone on Captain EO in the evenings, there has always been a healthy crowd of guests. I enjoy the show, and would much rather EO remain for the time being than get Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, or some subpar Star Wars attraction.

It's probably to both a) cut costs in the off season and b) try out some new effects for whatever show goes in there next.

    Re: Captain Eo Closing...

When I saw EO a year or two ago, it was the most depressing experience I've ever had at the Disneyland Resort. It was an intense reminder of a tragic American life. So sad watching him trying so hard to be masculine in EO. Elton John heroically came out in the 70s, but Michael had to contend with racism, a religious family with a scary parent, and . . . whatever issues he had. Maybe he was born 20 years too soon. Maybe I'm projecting, but . . . sad--at least in EO and in death.

Can any of us separate this role from Michael? He's not exactly Meryl Streep or a young DeNiro.

Love his music though! But remembering Michael through EO is like remembering McCartney from his narcissistic and boring, "Give My Regards to Broad Street." Love that soundtrack too though!

Then again, maybe I just really hated the way the re-opened EO's seats moved.

The assumption here is that a rumored Star Wars attraction would be "subpar". What if it wasn't?

Maybe it's something as simple as putting in new seats or a new sound system.

If it's on the refurbishment schedule, does it have a reopening date?

It would be very strange to close the attraction with no announced replacement (not unheard of, but considering the low overhead of running the theater, definitely strange).

Although it could be as simple as closing for awhile to give WDI the time to test new effects for a new show.

They certainly could stand to dust the cans of the recessed lights in the auditorium. Gross!

Healthy crowd tonight around 8pm - clapping before and after; enjoyed the show.

A space mountain cast member told me it was closing when it goes down. Now they aren't always correct, but it seems like something closer to the confirmation of the end of EO.

By "healthy" do you mean 20-30 people, other than yourself in the theater that sits 500? That's all I've ever seen in there when I've stopped in, aside from EO's re-opening which obviously brought in more guests.

I'm completely for a new attraction. EO had it's chance, and then had it's chance again. It's time to take off for good!
