Re: What is your favourite ride of all-time? One for Disney, one for non-Disney parks

Horizons was the greatest Disney (and non-Disney) attraction ever built, EVER. It was the ideal of what a Disney attraction should be. It was well themed, fast paced, yet slow enough to take in all the details. Had great, memorable music. Was inspiring. In a word: Awesome and magical and incredible. And terribly, TERRIBLY missed!

Outside of Disney is a little harder, since very few non-Disney attractions have made much of an impression.

But if I have to, I'd pick the Knott's Berry Farm Calico Mine Train. Although the animatronics are really primitive and unsophisticated, it had great theming and succeeds in transporting you to another time and place.

Disney: Splash Mountain. A perfect combination of thrills, AAs, dark-ride, relaxing river, and catchy music.

Non-Disney: Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey. Simply incredible.

    Disney: POTC (Sans-A-Depp version)
Non-Disney: Transformers. Probably favorite ride, period.

    Walt Disney World: Expedition Everest
Universal Orlando: Revenge of the Mummy (Orlando version only)

I've never been able to pick just one, but I'll go with the newest Disney ride that is currently tied for my absolute favorite with five other rides. Outside of the parks there is no question. Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Orlando is every bit as good as any Disney ride and has the best single scene (the fake ending) of any ride I've ever been on.

Re: What is your favourite ride of all-time? One for Disney, one for non-Disney parks

For Disney, it was a toss up between Pirates and Haunted Mansion, but since they "Jack'd up" (ha ha) Pirates, I have to give the edge to HM.

Outside of Disney, I have to admit I haven't ridden many things or visited other parks very much, at least not as an adult. In fact I haven't even been to Universal Studios since Jurassic Park first opened. :-/ I remember really liking the Back to the Future ride when I was a kid, but that's gone now.

    What stevek said...

Sorry to be so un-original, but these are examples of true Americana, youthful exploration, and outstanding showmanship, and all three have that 'let's ride it again!' factor - that the whole family can enjoy together

I was at Universal (Hollywood) in September 2012. It ran then. Or are we talking about the same thing? Jimmy Fallon hosted it, you see the Psycho house, the King Kong 3D ride, etc. Is that what you mean?

    Great thread.

For non-Disney it's that Harry Potter Forbidden Journey ride. It blows me away. For Disney, I really like Indiana Jones in DL. The new Carsland RSR is fun too.
