Really beautiful work. I really want to learn modeling like this, it just looks like such a satisfying hobby, being able to build your own fantasy places.

Well, it's closed, so that part is very accurate.

    Heh?

My railroad is not closed, just in a perpetual state of construction.

For the record, I'm not really going for strict accuracy. My Thunder Mesa exists in an alternate reality where many of the attractions we know and love like Big Thunder Mt, Calico Mine Train, Nature's Wonderland and the Disneyland Railroad were inspired by it, and not the other way around. This gives me a lot more freedom to do what I want.

You're an extremely talented model builder and Disney should hire you this very second.

I'm sure you've seen the model of Mine Train thru Nature's Wonderland... Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland

Thank you, Bob. I enjoy working for myself too much these days and Glendale is a hell of a commute from AZ.

Yes, Sam's work on Nature's Wonderland is wonderful.

Here is a track plan of the current layout for those interested in such things:

Most of the scenery on the "west" end is done. Rainbow Caverns and the town area are still under construction.

If you ever decide that you want to start a new project and need space please consider renting out this beautiful project to the San Diego model train museum. It will make countless children and kids at heart happy here.

Re: Big Thunder/Disney Inspired Model Railroad

Thank you all very much. I've just recently updated the Thunder Mesa site and now my structure plans are available for free download as PDFs. They don't come with instructions but can be used to make fun paper models by those with a little skill and patience. Just click the "Plans & Graphics" tab at the top of the page.
