Re: 1955 Disneyland Opening Day in Color with Walt Disney!

I am flabbergasted. The colors on a film that's older than I am (I'm 56) have stayed bright and pristine all these years. Stunning! Must see more, please!

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

They have been stored in a climate controllled vault which is designed to preserve the film. It's amazing how beautiful the footage is though. My heart skipped a beat when I discovered this.

I have been very fortunate but also relentless in my pursuit. Every time I think the well has run dry, something else turns up and I get lucky again. Just got a scrapbook from Jack Wrather's oldest daugher Molly and I am in the process of scanning the contents now. Will be posting again soon.

    All these pictures are phenomenal!

Thank you so much 'oldhotelguy' for sharing. I always enjoy the "unearthed treasures" you find on Disneyland's past, as well as the hotel.

    Big thumbs up!

If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

This is awesome. The trees and bushes were so small! I wonder if Walt saw all of this in his mind with the landscaping that's there today. If you find any pictures of the old Yale shop on Main Street please share those as well. My mother would really appreciate it since her father ran that shop.

I have read Annette's biography and she said that the Mousketeers were in Walt's apartment, waiting to be introduced. She said he was with them early on and watched through the window as the first visitors came through the tunnels and tears started streaming down his cheeks.
