Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

There's got to be a good way to keep the "golden age of California" theme without Pixar. Pixar's ok for a ride or two, but that's IT!

I like the CA theme. It's a big state, with a lot to look at and a lot of good things. Just needs elaboration.

I love the Bountiful Valley, but they haven't done anything with it other than one tiny "Farmer's Market" cart and the bug's land kid area, not good for anybody over 4.

I like the concept of a boardwalk, but the way they did it is awful. All the bad things about carnivals and none of the good stuff. The carny games need to go- I'm not sure at this point that I even care about putting something there, just take away the stupid games. Put something there in the end but gah.

California thrives on night-life, so keep the park open after dark. It's astoundingly beautiful with the lights on, yet it always closes by 6pm it seems. At least the days I'm there, it closes way early.

I really do like the California theme. Keep it. I love the giant letters on the esplanade. I love Soarin' over CA. I love the Hollywood Backlot. I love the movie themes, just not Pixar. Glamour, fame, bright lights, the gold rush, heady dreams. That's the stuff.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

Keep it California themed, but for goodness sake, put some real thought into it!!! They need to get some fresh minds together for some serious brainstorming. The trick is not to get designers who can come up with cost effective attractions, but designers who are innovative enough to come up with great ideas and also ways of making them happen.
There are parts of CA that really seem, well, magic-less. A tractor and a fiberglass cow aren't spectacular ways of bringing the theme of Bountiful Farms to life. CA is part of the Magic Kingdom, so...give it some magic!

You know what I love about this thread, it was started as one of a dozen recent new threads bashing on DCA but it looks like a larger majority of folks on MiceChat actually lean towards keeping the theme and improving what we already have!

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

Westcot has always been my fantasy for Disneyland. But at this point I wouldn't level the current park to do it. I would want to see if they could come up with a new master plan that incorporates as much as possible of what's there, do a facelift to change the main story of the park, and then work toward adding/replacing attractions over time. You're not going to lose things like the TOT, but it does not make sense to me to try and copy nearby parks: Universal, Six Flags, and Pacific Park/Boardwalks. TOT is an example of how you can have the Hollywood theme without copying though, just like DisneySea works without being a SeaWorld and Animal Kingdom is moving toward working without (just) being a Wild Animal Park. Paradise Pier on the other hand has no place in a Disney Park. Adventure doesn't sound like a Disney park to me as that's a type of ride, not a story/theme. Storytelling and real content (often times meaning some educational component like much of Epcot) are what make so much of Disney magical in my mind which is why I'm still so disappointed to have lost Westcot.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

DCA name should stay. This park needs not more copy cat attractions just more unique stuff. It needs to be different from all the other parks. It pays homage to California where it all started. From California Soaring to California Screamn. (even though they put Soaring in WDW. There no mountains in FL. I guess you cant soar over FL. So they left the California theme) I just hope they dont tear down the the Golden Gate. Its a Park where NoCal and SoCal come together.

OMG, that is so funny. You are referring to the parking lot before Disney's California Adventure was built and you tried to make a joke about it, how funny. That's so original. Who'd have thought someone would make a joke about the old parking lot. I never thought someone was bound to make a joke about that, but you just went right ahead and did. You blew us away with that.

I know you were being fecitious (from the Greek word feces, which means waste matter eliminated from the bowels; excrement, to be poopy), but your sarcasm was still humorous!

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

What they should do is not drop the California Theme completely, but change the name to Disney's Adventure park, so that they can still use the California theme, but they will no longer be limited to California, and that may have been one of the problems with the number of attractions when it opened.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

OK it's pretty unrealistic theyll bulldoze the park and build Westcot. That would be pretty cool but I didn't list that option cause it aint gonna happen people... Wake up and smell that burnt coffee odor when you walk through DCA's gates...

That said, it's surprising how many people say keep the CA theme, and even more interesting that there are so many who want the DISNEY'S AMERICA theme, which is a little known concept that very few of us have ever seen the art and designs for... I got one from the original Manassass Virginia proposal where the Disney's America historical park was going to be built in the late 90s. It sounds really COOL and kind of a blend of Frontierland and an Old America World Showcase pavillion. That could be really cool as a new theme for DCA... and a lot more imaginitive and immersive. Plus it could get foreign, out of state and local tourists involved with leaving the world behind and feeling like you're travelling to far off places and long ago times. Isn't that the essence of the Disney theme park?
