Smile Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

Should Disney continue the "California" theme or go with something different?

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

I said Disney Adventure Park, as long as they keep it all well themed and up to the Disney standard. Not make some crappy Disney Six Flags knock-off.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

i say keep it. i LOVE the giant letters in the esplanade. i think by trying to homoganize the park and turn it into an "adventure" park, that it's just going to end up in some awkward state. i dunno. keep california.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

Keep it as DCA. That way we can keep making fun of it
Just Kidding, I actually hope that Disney keeps pumping money into it and keeps it themed to California, except for Paradise Pier. They oughta rip it and that lagoon out and do something else with all of that space.
Hey, how about an Epcot type of area? With some serious kick-butt restaurants...ooh, and alcohol too (MissChristine would like that!)!!
Now we're talkin'!!

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

A "Disney's Adventure Park" that focuses on thrills could be a bad thing since it would give them an excuse to get away with off the shelf rides with little theming ala Mulholland Madness, Maliboomer, and California Screamin'. I wish they would completely switch out to Disney's America. I have always loved that idea. But for now, it seems they are going to stick with the California theme so I say ok, but just elaborate(which is what they are planning to do).

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

I think that the California theme could have worked with some imagination. But the reputation of DCA has been SO damaged, I think it needs a clean slate to get the public's attention.

Another factor in this decision is how much money there is to spend. If the budget is not a factor, then definitely remake the park into something wonderful.

I think that "America" is too limiting a theme. I like "Adventure" so that any terrific idea could be used. I like the concept of bringing movies to life. I want to walk the streets of Mary Poppins or explore the avenues of Shanghai. Those could not fit an "America" theme.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

I'd much rather see a smaller version of EPCOT/World Pavillions. That was what I thought the original concept of a second Southern California park was to be - I could be wrong about that.
I thought from the very beginning that for tourists, and the much-higher-percentage-than-Florida local repeat business, the concept of a park about California, in the middle of California, was the wrong way to go.
As for "excellent restaurants" with booze, you already have a few in the DTD, just a few feet away...I'd rather see more of an emphasis on improving food at Disneyland.
Does alcohol make DCA look that much better?
Since we'll never see EPCOT, I vote for more Disney-Pixar themed attractions. DCA will never be DL. But I know that a lot of folks like it. It was never meant to be. But I know that a lot of folks like it.
For me, the best part of DCA is finding a place to get away from the crowds, and listen to every song that ever even thought of California on the PA system.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

but i agree that the lagoon is just standing water...something needs to be done with it. right now, it's just a place to get good sunset shots of california screamin' and the sun wheel.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

I heard that they were going to make the theme to more of a 50's theme. But still keep california. Because the 50's were californias golden era (not counting the gold rush). And thats when calis economy boomed, plus there was a little place down the street that opened called disneyland.

Re: Disney's CALIFORNIA Adventure

Of all the choices .. I was torn between the "Disney's America" idea that was shot down several years ago in Virginia ... (that should be revitilized for another park -- hint-hint -- New "DCA") ............ but I chose the Pixarization because it's heading in that direction already with Bugs Land .. and Monster's Inc. I don't like the idea of Disneyland being "Pixarized" .. but by the same token ... here's this second gate in desperate need of a change-over ... and the Pixar properties are actually darn good ideas ... just not for DL.

With the Pixar people onboard now ... they can really take off .. and transform DCA must faster than any other theme idea.

And lets admit it ........... DCA needed a change-over like 5 years ago .. before they opened it up as it is now!!
