    Re: Jingle Cruise sucks.

When news first broke about the Jingle Cruise, I was surprised that so many people were for it and excited to see what Disney would do. I thought it was a stupid idea to begin with. I'm not shocked at the reviews.

Why would you ever wait 80 minutes for Jungle Cruise... the line never peaked to 1 hour btw, I was working there yesterday!
Well...I can see why you'd get excited when they even have an attraction poster for it...not even HMH has a Attraction poster

It's great to give the JC skippers some new jokes for the holiday season. The problem comes when you promote it as something special for the holidays but don't deliver anything "special". Personally, I think this attraction is overdue for an overhaul. It feels a bit like a museum-piece that survives for the sake of nostalgia.

The Jungle Cruise always felt kind of desolate during the holidays, especially at night, and while there is no gigantic blue LED snowman in the Jungle Cruise, the sum total of all the decorations in the park make Disneyland special during the holidays.

I bet that five years from now, guests will be reminiscing about how the first jingle cruise didn't have a whole lot decorations.

I think the changes are ok, they just shouldn't have promoted it if that's all there is.

Agreed, Jungle Cruise needs a major investment by Disney to bring it up to 21st century standards, not corny jokes and static figures. I don't think this is exactly what Walt envisioned Jungle Cruise to be on paper.

Sorry but if you were expecting a HMH/IASWH level experience then you were just setting yourself for disappointment. Even when Al Lutz leaked the rumor of it's coming he mentioned that it was very minor.

I can't exactly say I was impressed with it, but I did know that it was going to be a quick and sloppy overlay. I like that it adds to the overall holiday takeover of the park, and if they left it as holiday themeing, I would have been perfectly fine with it. But it's definitely not worth the hype Disney has created about it.

It wasn't what he had planned, and when the park opened with a more serious version of Jungle Cruise it didn't exactly get a hot response, and i'd be willing to be that if they stuck with that version it would have gone the same route as the original submarine voyage, directly into yesterland.

On the contrary, 80 minute lines is exactly what would get it tuned up.

^why improve it when what they did has lines?

Disney only improve things if it's been there for years or the attraction needs something new to boost lines

Look at Ghost Galaxy the ride needs better projections but since it gets 2 hour lines..they wont upgrade the system because most people don't mind

Minor doesn't mean uncreative, unfunny and boring. This is Disneyland -- small touches should have the same creativity, ingenuity and charm as larger projects. Disney used to put creativity into the custom decorations of the park's trash cans! Now they can't even do a decent job on "Jingle Cruise?"

No way can this be blamed on "unrealistically high expectations" of the customers. This is purely a case of Disney dropping the ball and bungling the opportunity to make the Jingle Cruise fun and funny.

That is the Orlando mentality that we're so avidly trying to avoid.

At they very least, they could've gone with the overlay altogether, but just not promote as a holiday offering. Keep it as the Jungle Cruise, but still keep a holiday spirit there. Yes, they overblew its promotion, making it sound like a new and big addition. But at the very least, it was nice to see something new for the classic attraction.

I would assume a "Jingle Cruise" would at least feature the song "Jingle Bells" and have appropriate decor and Christmas lights, and the occasional Reindeer and all. This is just BAD. So much for Disney's usual ability to go over the top with the Christmas season ride overlays.

I may have missed something (maybe I'm missing some Jingle Cruise television commercials or magazine ads), but what is this big promotion that Disney did for the Jingle Cruise? There is an attraction poster, which probably 95% of guests don't even notice, and a little update on the Disney blog. Just asking, because it seems like Disney hasn't spent anything to promote this overlay!

Probably 99% of occasional Disneyland visitors will simply stumble upon the Jingle Cruise, Without having heard about any specific promotion.

Anyway, the Disneyland version of the Jingle Cruise looks different from the Magic Kingdom one in that they put Christmas lights on top of the boats, and the skippers have these homemade Santa Claus hats. I think it would've looked better with Christmas lights strung around the perimeter of the roofs on the boats, I guess they had to keep them out of reach of guests. Maybe next year they can use a 12 volt Christmas lights System to put more lights on the boats' roofs.

Can't wait to see a picture/video of the lights on the boats at night! Even though it was probably done with a small budget, it shows that a little bit of creativity can be used to plus classic attractions in Disneyland. I bet the WDI has had a lot of "little ideas" for plussing attractions that weren't given even a modest budget. Half-dozen of little projects like the Jingle Cruise, not necessarily holiday overlays, would help keep Disneyland special, IMHO.

Doesn't the Small World overlay already use the Jingle Bell song? Just saying, it is possible to go little bit overboard with that song! It would be period appropriate to put a radio on the jungle cruise boat that is playing Christmas songs, so this might interfere with the spiel.
