Re: Submarines plan to close permanently Jan 4 other bad news

This is how I felt for ever believing a single word about these so called "big expansion plans". . Oh well, I think I will be skipping reading resort "news" updates on Tuesdays from now on.

As for the Subs; well closing them would be an odd choice. They put a lot of money into returning the attraction, it seems like a lot for a short term thing - even if it is the most costliest attraction.
If things are that bad then sure, mothball it for a few months, dust it off for the summer season.
Walt Disney Imagineering is still part of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. The division is expensive and stopping work is an easy way to quickly curtail costs. We may finally see the long desired move to a Universal Creative model.

Will have to wait and see on the subs. Years ago al was certain the mark twain would close and be turned into a permanently moored eatery. That didn't happen.

I really can't see this happening. I mean, Universal's DECADES from having a big enough internal development team that they can tear apart and fire so that Disney can hire them.

That they would even consider removing the subs is disgusting.

This is one of the great legacy attractions you have. One of Walt's supreme achievements. A nothing-else-like-it-on-the-planet. An experience so well-concieved that even a somewhat misjudged redo (and I like the nemo subs) hasn't been able to dim its effectiveness. And you're considering replacing it with a run-of-the-mill coaster?

You are a theme park that makes hundreds of millions of dollars per year. You charge double digits for a hot dog. You can afford to run the subs.

WDW is still getting a massive remake of DTD and Pandora is still moving forward.

Yea, cause that's exactly what we were begging for. <eyeroll>

Don't worry, the Nemo Subs ain't going anywhere anytime soon. Nemo is such a popular character and he'll be doubly popular when Finding Dory comes out, and there will be monster lines for the Subs. As of right now, guests are happy to wait to see Nemo and Friends, it has always been very popular with little kids as well.

The other compounding factor is that the ever-popular Autopia is built above the Sub show building, and while Autopia might go electric, it is a work horse attraction, add the ride capacity of the two attractions together and you're moving a lot of guests. Indy has more maintenance than the subs, and as do other rides.

2014: Nemo Subs refurbed, effects upgraded/fully repaired.
2015/6 lead up to Finding Dory

    Nemo Subs have:

    1. Low-maintenance cost inductive charging system used in Disney's Sea Aquatopia, Tokyo's Pooh's Huny Hunt, and many other rides, such as Ratatouille under construction.
    2. An outdoor show scene that hasn't been drained and refurbed in 7 years, yet still looks good.
    3. The removal of indoor underwater scenes, I believe the Sub Lagoon capacity dropped from 9 million to 6 million gallons, and replacement of underwater scenes with dry scenes behind glass that look like they're underwater, hence less much less maintenance here.
    4. DLP projection technology, cheap to run longterm when compared to underwater animatronics.
    5. Finding Dory, the sequel to Pixar's number one grossing film of all time when adjusting inflation.

Who knows what will happen two decades from now, but the Subs appear to be quite safe for the time being.

I really wish that MiceAge would not use the term, "Disney Parks."

I never believed any of those rumors anyway.

I'll be at Universal, as usual. Can't wait for Potter!

Yeah, I never believe any rumors like that until an announcement is made and shovels are shoved into the ground. Now people are disappointed. I'm not.

There's... something I can't place my finger on with this update.

I'm usually not that down on them, but it really seems that this one was written from a single, fairly unified anti MyMagic+ source. It's conflicting not only things in previous updates but things going on in the park now.

I'm taking it with a massive grain of salt. It doesn't escape notice that most of the "cancelled" stuff is the list of projects that were met with "WTH" by pretty much everyone.
