    Fantasmic projections?

Being that Fantasmic is under a decent length refurb, does anyone know if they are going to upgrade the projectors in Fantasmic to HD or if they even need that upgrade (has it been done already?)

Or are they just performing routine maintenance on all that is already there?

It appears to so far be routine maintenance.

Gotcha thanks. That would be awesome if they upgraded to those 4K projectors because world of color looks really good now!

I thought they upgraded a year or two ago. I'm probably wrong though.

As I understand it Fantasmic will get WoC's old projectors (the ones it had prior to the 4K upgrade). Can't remember exactly where I read that but I know I read it from a trustworthy source!

Yeah they updated in 2008 to HD. Then world of color was introduced so I wonder if they used similar HD projectors to the ones used in the 2008 refurb or if they were better "HD". I'm sure WOC got better projectors as it was 2 years later and it looks like based of nonob88 that fantasmic will be getting these better versions but still not the 4K update. Hopefully the 4K ones get installed this year or so!

    Re: Fantasmic projections?

For Fantasmic it would probably need to be more than just the projector upgrade if they went to a 4K resolution projector upgrade....the content would need to be redone as well. WOC's content was produced at a 4K resolution even thought the projector technology wasn't there yet at install. Now that it is, they are swapping out the WOC projectors easily and poof, the video is more purdy.

It makes sense that they would just move the WOC projectors to F! as the F! content is probably produced in a standard HD resolution at best, so going to a 4K projector with the original content wouldn't be of any benefit.

It would be like putting tires on that can handle 300mph on a car that can only go 75mph!

    Re: Fantasmic projections?

Fantasmic was originally projected off of 70mm film (much greater resolution than 4k) and it should be easy to scan the negatives of it at any resolution they want.

Ahhhhh so it would be easy to do! Whether or not Disney will do it is an entirely different story.
