it is the kind of thing you'd notice...

the koi are more subtle ;-)
DL's got quite a biosystem running in their watercourses. I've seen turtles, crayfish, minnows of some description, koi, and of course the jumping fish and a varying level of waterfowl and the occasional kitten or rat.

The fish is not animatronic but it is very likely that it was a test bed for it. Natures Wonderland opened in 1961 or 62 and I have a hunch that Walt was in the process of developing AAs for the Tiki room in 63.

There are the seance sounds coming from the second floor room across from the NOS bathrooms. Or are they party sounds?

Those are party sounds, similar to the saloon sounds in Rainbow Ridge and the sounds on Main Street.

There are both. The Seance takes place further into NOS - above Cafe Orleans. That's the woman who owns the birds.

The Party Sounds used to play from behind the train station. There was a whole "are you here for the party or the funeral" bit.

Re: Animatronic fish in the pond across from Thunder Mountain...

The Dave land blog has a feature on some of the areas of the old nature in wonderland train ride He also has a picture of the fish.

i remember seeing the wart partially drained and it is a simple effect that has a couple fish on a wire or wheel that occasional jump out of the water.

i just found someone a description of how it works

"The phantom fish in the pond next to Big Thunder is actually a little fake fish on a wire/stick. If the sun hits the water just right (late afternoon mid-summer) it backlights the fish and stick for about an hour and you can see the whole under-water unit. The part you can see consists of the stick, the little fish-shaped attachment at the end and another rectangle shaped flange lower on the stick about 3" wide, 4" long and about a foot below the fish that extends straight out from the pole towards the tail end of the fish. The function of this flange appears to serve as a rudder to keep the fish pointing the right way as it flip-flops back and forth...as you can clearly see the fish turn around for its return trip again and again."
