Re: My Dapper Day Trip Report as it happens Feb, 2014

I love a trip report with a TON of photos. I especially like the shots you got of empty Fantasyland. It's not too often I get to see it like that.

The empty fantasyland photo was photoshopped!!! He missed the strollers in the upper left corner. And look at Dumbo, all those elephants flying high and empty, so easy to move colors around on this ride.

That is what happens when there is no rope drop, trickle from the gate, escorted by CMs around the hub. have to give the man credit, alarm set for 5:00 am and the girls rouse him out of bed. A great testimony to the grand rewards of being early at the gate.

The best was being THE FIRST through the castle that morning. I had to hustle to do it, and I was carrying my middle girl in my arms to do it. Empty FL is GREAT. I really liked walk-ons.

Re: My Dapper Day Trip Report as it happens Feb, 2014

02/23/2014 - 06:45 PST. After a mad dash through DTD to Bag Check, we were at the left-most turnstile for DCA. Posed for a few pics, got some compliments, and then we were off... kidlettes got out front quick, much to the laughter of the other people racing for the cars land rope. We were right up front and right on the rope. They did the usual funnel us down Main Street of cars land, and into the line for RSR. Grabbed a stroller pass, and made our way through the queue. Oldest was having foot pain due to some blisters (or as she called them blizzards) from her crocs the day before. We jumped on the ride, in the front row of a teal car and were off. Everything seemed to be working perfectly except for the smoke rings on the tipped tractors. We ended up going through Luigi's and it was time to RACE! It was a great race, and more fun that I remembered it. The middle girl loved it as this was her first time on it. We won the race! Off the ride, swapped with the wife, and took the very upset youngest who had just face planted and was covered in wet leaves I hung out around Stanley, and then went down to Mater's to try to occupy her while the wife and older girls were racing. She did NOT like Mater's with me. Once off, she calmed down, and we waited for the girls to get back from Racers.

Next, we beat feet over to Toy Story Midway Mania only to hear "it will be a delayed opening... go ride little mermaid" from the CM. We ended up walking on to Mickey's Fun Wheel of DEATH! (Aka swinging cars). As there weren't anybody else waiting in line, we got a full two go arounds without stops. The kids and I were LOVING it. The wife... not so much. Afterwards, with TSMM still down, we headed over to Goofy's Sky School where the oldest and I went to ride (twice in a row walk-on), while the wife took the two youngest down to Ariel's Undersea Adventure. She and they rode it 3 times in a row, and the oldest and I caught a single go-through before rejoining the rest of the family. Afterwards, we saw TSMM was going, so headed on over. Probably a 20 minute wait by this point as the park was open. We were a big hit in line, people loved our outfits, and the CM running the loading process was gushing over our dapper family. She said she was going to rush home after her shift, get dappered up, and rush back to the park. I hope she had a good time. I won the high score for the family with a score of 116,900. Not my best score but it will do.

Re: My Dapper Day Trip Report as it happens Feb, 2014

After that, it was time for breakfast.. We headed over to BV street, got a pic with Walt and Mickey via the photopass photog. Then we went over to take some family pics at the fountain. This is when Amanda, a wonderful cast member came up and asked if we would like her to take a few pics of us. I dialed in the camera, and told her to just hold the shutter button down (crank out 10 pics in a few seconds). Afterwards, she told us we had the best outfits she had seen and that she would love to give us a family fast pass good for anything but Racers. Thanked her profusely, and she was so great all around. I'll have to email city hall and let them know how great she was for taking our pics so I can actually be in one, and the thanks for the FP.

Now, it was time to get some food for the very hungry kids. Made our way into Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe. Boy was the line long in there! After quite a wait, I got us all breakfast and drinks. They did mess up my order, and I ended up with a spinach and egg wrap instead of the sausage and cheddar sandwich I ordered. Wife ate it and said it was great. I had the bacon and cheese sandwich, a cinnamon roll for each of the older girls, a cup of grapes for the youngest, and rounded out with some lemonade, Berry drink, and a chai. Devoured everything, and headed over to Hollywood land for potty breaks for the kids, and then onto Monster's Inc. Great ride, never any line, and very fun always. On the way out, Sully was walking by with a handler. Kids wanted to go see him, but he was moving pretty quick toward Muppets.

It was now after 10, so we high-tailed it to BV street and Elias and Company to do some quick shopping before we had to scoot to the room to pack and check out. The wife had been looking at Dooneys in every shop, and finally found a print oriented on the purse to her liking, so she proceeded to get it. I wrangled the kids, and explored the rest of the retail area. By now, it was getting late, so the wife took the youngest, and headed back to the room to pack while I pleaded with the girls to make a decision on what they wanted. After much back and forth between the shop areas, the oldest settled on a Bambi baby plush, and the middle girl got a Marie( white cat from Aristocats) baby plush. Threw in a pen at the register to bring it over $50 for the Disney card discount, and we quickly went up to the Packard up by Oswald’s. While I was changing camera settings, those wiley kids had climbed up on the hood. I can't take them anywhere. A few pics, and we were off back to the Grand. Stopped in the lobby gift shop and grabbed myself 2 souvenirs, one of the Grand Californian tile, and a Grand glass. Then it was up to the room.

Got back, the wife had probably got half the packing done, so I pitched in and we got it all done and ready to go again. I used the stop at the room to swap from newsie cap to fedora. Trying to raise bell services at 11am (OK, it was slightly after) when the hotel is at capacity was a 10 minute hold on the phone process. Got all the bags checked, and off to DL we went. We went via DTD, and let me tell you, I knew it was going to be crowded when THOUSANDS of people were all walking the same way we were. After a 5 min wait to get through the turnstiles, we decided we were going to use our family FP from Amanda and do Pirates. As we made our way through adventure land, I was STUNNED when I saw the pirates queue pretty much taking up the entire area, stretching over the foot bridge, as well as countless switchbacks down by the Rivers of America. I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER seen it that long. It was a 90 minute wait time I believe posted. We made our way to the exit, and jumped in line with the DAS people. It was probably a 10-15 min wait before we got in, and were allowed to board a boat. Youngest was getting fussy, and thankfully we got on the ride at just the right time (she LOVES, and I mean LOVES POTC. Are 16 month olds supposed to stop crying immediately when they hear the theme music?). Because the ride was so packed, the boats did back up here/there, which gave me some time to really take in all the details on the ride. This will always be my favorite Disney attraction.

Afterwards, the kids wanted to shop at Pieces of Eight. I made my way down to Royal Street Veranda and grabbed a steak gumbo bread bowl and a Louisiana Lemonade. I tried calling the wife, but she wasn't picking up, so I ate at a table looking over the Pirates queue, and while eating, a guy asked if he and his group could sit with me at the other vacant chairs. I offered them up, but said my family may be coming. He inquired as to why everybody was dressed "all old-timey). I explained Dapper Day to him, which I don't think he really understood. Finished the meal and headed in search of the family. Found them at the register of PoE, and the wife did not look happy. Apparently the middle girl had picked out a Pirate key keychain, and there was no tag on it, and it was the last one. The CM said she couldn't sell it or do anything about it, and was rude to the wife. We paid for the plastic sword for the oldest, and left (didn't have the energy to raise a stink or take down the CM info to report at city hall).

Re: My Dapper Day Trip Report as it happens Feb, 2014

At this point, it was getting close to the DisUnplugged M&G at River Belle Terrace. We cut through RBT from Adventure land to Frontier land, and headed over to The Golden Horseshoe for food as nothing at RBT appealed to us. The wife got in line, while I took the kids and got us a table in a VERY packed room. It was probably 45 minutes to get food and eat it, but at least we had a stage show for entertainment. By the time we were done, the meet had likely dissolved (I didn't see anybody I recognized at RBT from my quick cruise through).

We then headed over to the river dock. The Twain was leaving as we got there, but the Sailing Ship Colombia was coming around the bend. Never having ridden on it, we jumped at the opportunity despite the fact that we wouldn't be able to do the Mark Twain Mixer with the rest of the Dappers. It was pretty neat, and I never realized you could go below decks and check out all the informative displays. We went around the ROA, having a great time exploring the ship and waving to the canoes and all the "beautiful people" on the shores..

After the trip around the ROA, we were getting thirsty, so we parted the now quarter mile long line of dappers waiting for the twain and grabbed the stroller. As we were getting ready to re-part the line, we were asked by a gentleman to pose together for a picture. He really loved our entire family dapperness. We made our way along the ROA over towards the Mint Julep bar, spotting a MiceChater (DreamsofColor) in line along the way. Got in line at the bar, and grabbed a few Juleps and a 3-pk of beignets to satiate the kids. Still thirsty, I grabbed three more Juleps while the girls did bathroom breaks. It was getting close to departure time, so we made our way through a BURSTING packed park to Fantasy land, and had the kids pick out their ears for this trip at the Mad Hatter. The baby was sleeping by now, so I stayed with her, double-fisting Juleps while the wife took the older two girls on the teacups for one last time.

After that, I did a quick cruise through Aurora's castle with the two oldest, and we hit Main Street on the way out for some cotton candy and we were off to the hotel again to check out after a long walk through DTD. The wife used this opportunity to finally change out of her heals right outside the turnstiles into some comfy shoes. Back at the hotel, one last bathroom break, ordered up the vehicle and the luggage and waited...It was BUSY, so probably a 20+ minute wait. While waiting, I was approached by a gentleman who asked "I left something in my car and need to get it, how do I go about it?". I just looked blankly at him and said.. ummmm... at which point he probably realized I had a mint julep in my hand, no name tag, and was leaning against a stroller with a toddler in it. I guess I was looking particularly like a Grand Californian Cast member. Finally, vehicle loaded up, we pulled out onto Disneyland drive at 16:27 PST.

We made great time getting out of the metro area, but had to stop for fuel and some Carl's Jr at some point while still in CA. The wife and oldest used this opportunity to change out of their Dapper-wear into some more comfortable clothing for the long drive back. Crossed into AZ at 20:43 MST, still making great time. The baby would get fussy and start screaming here/there, and it was a quick navigation on the sound system to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction music, which was literally an instant pacification. Again... our kid has been conditioned... she probably hears it in her sleep. FINALLY pulled into the driveway in downtown Phoenix at 22:29 MST. When the wife and I stepped out of the vehicle, we couldn't walk... sore muscles combined with a five hour vehicle ride and we were STIFF. While we were unloading, we left the kids sleeping in the vehicle. The oldest woke up and came in, and we got the other two, and put them in bed. It was an AWESOME weekend, and quite possibly the best trip per hour ever. We really should have stayed an extra day, but with a 06:30 meeting at the office the following morning, it wasn't an option. Here's to hoping we can pull off another adventure (hopefully for an entire week) this October.

The bonnet and matching dress she had on were the wife's grandmother's from when she was a child.

What a great write up and super pictures! Thanks for sharing! How did the girls handle HM? My son would not go on it until he was older than your girls!
BTW, I have never been able to wear a Fedora or other wide brimmed hat while driving, it is very irritating to have the back of the brim touching the head rest of the seat.

They've been on it on 3 previous trips, so did fine. The baby did start crying after the thunder in the stretching room, but was quickly pacified. She didn't mind it last May oddly enough.
