Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

I recently had the plasure of riding the "new and improved" space mountain @ DL. I loved everything about it - except the music. I like the old stuff better.

I've started looking for a recording but can't seem to find what I remember hearing. From the wait line music to the on the ride music, I'm looking for a commplete compilation.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

The six-CD Music of Disneyland set has the queue audio as well as the old Dick Dale soundtrack of the ride. It also has the new track as well.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

In the late 70 and early 80's what soundtrack was played on the actual ride? When did it change to Dick Dale? Does anyone know the history of the space mountain soundtracks? The 6 disc set from Disney does not have any info on the space mountain tracks! It has two versions on the Cd's but no info in the book is listed! Wierd.

So the main question is:
How many versions of Space Mountain DL soundtracks are there?
What were the dates the the soundtracks were in place?

I don't know the dates offhand, but there's only been two on-board audio tracks (this doesn't count the Rockit Mountain track as it hasn't been used in wide circulation yet). Dick Dale's track was put in for the new Tomorrowland launch and the current Incredibles-y track that is being used today.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

I'm pretty sure that there was no music on space mountain until the 1998 relaunch of Tomorrowland. The speakers were added on to rockets at that point, which if I can remember correctly might have contributed to the damage the track support sustained up until the recent refurb. Something about the tracks not being designed for the added weight.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

At first I was uneasy about a new soundtrack for the ride, but now I LOVE it. It really is more appropriate than the Dick Dale track.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

You can listen to a recording of the old track here.

It's the first track.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

Before 1998 there was no soundtrack per se, but there were several sound effects in the first two up-hills...which were modified over the years from the original in 1977.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

I definitely like the new one over the old one, and they are both on the "Happiest Celebration on earth" CD (not the huge set for those not wanting to spend the money) but sadly it doesn't have everything your looking for. It's all only the audio actually played on the ride, except for the slow parts played in on the lifts of the new one which I liked and am sad is not there, but the old one is there.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

The Dick Dale SM soundtrack was added well before the 1998 Tomorrowland redo. Sometime late 1996 or 1997. I remember being there at an opportune time when they were trying it out, before they officially debuted it, so got to experience it early on. Then had some problems and turned it off for awhile until they got the glitches resolved.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

The Dick Dale Soundtrack, as well as the addition of the tv's in the queue, and i'm sure other stuff, happened during the winter 1996 refurbishment of the ride. I remember that cause I had a pass that year (from Xmas 1995) and there was no music, but when it reopened in the spring, they added all the new stuff.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

Space Mountain did no have on board music for about its first 20 years (there is some discussion of the first appearance 1995-1997 which sounds about right.) The onboard sound system was added as a modification to the original cars and many say this extra weight was a significant cause in the accelerated deterioration of the original track. The replacement of the original track was the reason for the 2 year + closure.

Re: Help: Original Space Mountain Music...

I would not mind having the current space mountain music break down for a day or so, to relive the days without space mountain music. I do like having the music although I do think the current music gets a bit old after a few rides. Perhaps just having really cools sound effects would be fun, engine sounds with whishes and swhooshes and particle effects to carry you through the ride and enhance the turns and stuff.
