Re: The Lilly Belle returns! but not for everyone

of course this happens. I've already given up hope of being a club33 member. I only wanted one of those tickets... *sigh*

and there are none on eBay... Although buying one wouldn't be the same.

    Seriously?
Yea, they could have moved it to the Carolwood barn up the 5, but why not let it run still in the original park, for the guests who've paid to have the right to ride like Walt did? I'm all for their decision. It's a smart move.

I remember hearing that the Lilly Belle also appears at some train festival in, is it Fullerton, during the summer? Is that still happening?

I'm sad about this; I never did have a chance to ride the LB. Every time I was at the park after I knew about it, either the reservations were gone or it was raining (so the car wasn't out).

It is indeed Fullerton! Not sure if the Lily Belle will be there this year, though. It looks like just the Ernest Marsh and Kalamazoo handcar will there from Disneyland. Carolwood will also be there!

Personally, I think they should have made it a lot harder to get into the Lilly Belle but not completely restrict it to Club 33 members. At least the car still circles the railroad today so I'm happy about that, they could just entirely remove it from service.

You can also ride if you are part of a VIP tour. Or as a guest of a Club member.

Sigh I guess I should be happy that I got to walk around in the Lilly Belle during the Fullerton Rail Days in 2012. I never got to ride it around Disneyland. Maybe Disneyland will reconsider.

Re: The Lilly Belle returns! but not for everyone

I was lucky enough to ride a couple of times last June on slow weekdays before the summer rush got underway. I do have a vague memory that the conductor, when we were exiting the train after returning to Main Street station, told us that they would be changing the design of the tickets soon, so the tickets were special keepsakes. Does anyone else remember being told this?

It seems like a strange coincidence if the tickets were in the process of being re-designed, and the Lilly Belle no longer being open for the public after the most recent Disneyland Railroad refurbishment.

I'm not really surprised about this decision. When the Lilly Belle was started, it was much more restricted than it is now.

How special would it be if everyone got to ride it?

Re: The Lilly Belle returns! but not for everyone

    2 things:

Park guests ruined this by being disrespectful of the opportunity.

Walt never intended the Lilly Belle to be for the public, but a place for him to entertain foreign dignitaries. Emperors and Kings. Lillian would often ride around in it with her friends sewing even. It was never intended as a public attraction. For all the whining about "Walt intended this/that" when they actually return something to how Walt intended, we whine about it. I'm confused.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Actually, it's my understanding that the Lily Belle was made in the 1970s, after Walt passed away, so he never actually rode it. It was made out of a bus chassis, if I remember correctly.
