Re: Disney's Aladdin is on Broadway so DCA can host M Poppins or the L King

I think a revue featuring different Disney characters would be great, given that it has the right tie-in story. I know Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Tarzan, and Mary Poppins will never happen because regional theatres in Orange County and high schools license the rights for those shows. Especially since the rights to the last three and newly available!

It was going to be the Toy Story musical from the Disney Cruise line so people already knew what the show would be like.

I think it needs to stay for two reasons: a) by all accounts it's still packing people in; b) Broadway is 3000 miles away. It doesn't matter what is playing there, IMHO - most folks from CA/UT/NV/AZ probably aren't going to have a chance to get out there and see Broadway on a regular basis. Having Aladdin here, with that in mind, is cool because it allows people to see a version of a current Broadway show (much like Blast when it was there).

If they did change the show, I would hope that it would be another full-length production and not a revue, for the above reason: it's a way to give people a taste of Disney on Broadway.

I would like to point out that the broadway version isn't based on the DCA version, its first test run was here in Seattle and it was popular enough to warrant bringing it to broadway.

Ah. So it's like the Broadway vs. WDW versions of Beauty and the Beast, then. Same story; two different shows. Good to know!

IMHO that's even more of a reason to keep Aladdin where it is. It's not something that's being repeated anywhere else .
Merida looks like this. Not a Barbie doll!

The Aladdin show has some really hard core fans/groupies who would/will be making a big deal if/when the show finally closes!

I feel like Frozen was written to be a Broadway musical honestly. Seems like it would fit really well.

Wait, is Aladdin officially leaving DCA? Did I miss that memo?
If it is on the way out then, YAY! I love that show. It's always great but it's been there for way too long. I look forward to something new. I don't care for Frozen all that much but it could make an amazing stage show and be so beautiful! I'm on-board for a 45-min Frozen show or Jungle Book. I think that could be good too.

Thanks for the link, Mickeyfan42! Did anyone ever tell your wife (or girlfriend?) that she looks like a Disney princess?

Probably because the song writers have an extensive broadway history, including Avenue Q and Book of Mormon.

4 I'd love to see a Hollywood version of Big Band Beat from Tokyo Disneysea - awesome show and unlike movie based ones you don't have to have any prior knowledge to enjoy it

Re: Disney's Aladdin is on Broadway so DCA can host M Poppins or the L King

Well, as much as I'd love Beauty and the Beast or the Lion King (actually Hunchback of Notre Dame always seemed like it was written to be turned into a Broadway play), it might be time for Disney to do a show that is a little more recent then that. So considering that Frozen is Disney's first monster hit in awhile, I suspect that would be the logical replacement. However, I still think that the Golden Mickeys from Disney Cruise Line is the exact perfect show for the theater and for the California theme of the park, and it's been showing on DCL for close to 10 years now, so I think it's time to retire it from the cruise and bring it to DCA.
