Cool Visit these places + D land in S. California

Please do come out to Disneyland, but while here also check out some of these recommended places on this thread:
Besides the D land Resort, favorite places to visit in S. California

I would also now enthusiastically add the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro (in addition to the Long Beach's Aquarium of the Pacific) if your kids is into learning about biology and would like to interact with a staff that has a higher % of nerdy scientists, eager to share their enthusiasm.

And a drive up the coast from L.A. to Big Sur, the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, and SF (with its Exploratorium), is an EPIC adventure that will take you to places you flew over in Soarin'.

There really is so much to see in Southern California outside of Disneyland (although Disneyland is the best! Who are we kidding?!) I recomend all of the historical locations all up and down the state. Wonderful parks including Sequioia and Kings Canyon. San Diego is only a couple of hours south with Sea World, Animal Park, museums, ships, and so much more.

I've read they have one of the best planetariums in the U.S., and I'm looking forward to going there, despite that it has one of the highest admission prices in the U.S.

SBK1234, I agree that there is an incredible # of things to do in S. CA (listed by many people on the thread linked in post #1 of this thread). In fact, I think it's unfortunate when out-of-state tourists spend the whole week of their vacation at the Disneyland Resort when (as I wrote) they could also visit the places the only saw in Soarin'. Well, not always "unfortunate," but like Disneyland Paris, Disneyland is close to some other attractions worth checking out:

I think that is the reason DCA was built.

Any suggestions you'd add to this thread if it weren't closed?

So much to do in the area. A few less commonly mentioned activities:

LA County Museum of Art (People love taking pics at the lamp posts out front. Also check out the very cool "Metropolis II" kinetic sculpture.)
Magic Castle (need an invitation from a member, or else stay in the hotel)
Petersen Automotive Museum (one of the best car museums)
Autry National Center (interesting exhibits about the Old West)
Nethercutt Museum (free museum with displays of classic cars and self playing musical instruments)
Renting bikes and riding from Venice Beach to Santa Monica
Hiking up to the Hollywood Sign (most people don't know you can do this)
Downtown LA (Walt Disney Concert Hall, Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels, Grand Central Market, Chinatown, Olvera St, Little Tokyo, walking tour of historic theaters)
South Coast Plaza (pretty impressive upscale shopping mall)
Cabazon outlet mall (probably the best outlet mall in SoCal)

Besides the Academy of Sciences, don't forget they also have the Walt Disney Family museum in the Presidio too.

Some of us wait years to go to DLR and love being there dearly, it's not unfortunate. Thanks though.

    I LOVE your list, sheetz!
    let me add two more:

    See
    1. the Groundlings on Melrose
    and
    2. the L.A. branch of the Upright Citizens Brigade on Franklin.
Very funny, smart, quick and eloquent improv comedy and you might see some future Saturday Night Live stars on stage, pr more realistically, some writers for some cable comedy shows. You should only take your kids if they love comedy and are over 15--give or take two years depending on your kid's maturity. (Some would say 18, but some are too uptight.)
The UCB tickets are only $5 or $10 depending on what show you reserve your tickets for.

There's a hotel in the Magic Castle?!
Please tell me more or else I'll have to go through all the trouble of Googling "Magic Castle Hotel."

Here again is the link to the orig. superthread on S. California:

I totally get it and I crossed out "unfortunate" in my post. And I think everyone who visit S. California SHOULD spend at least a day (or better yet two) at the Disneyland Resort. I am a complete Disney park freak myself and have been since I was 2, though there were 5 blurry, empty years between my first D land visit at 2 and my next Disney park visit, to WDW when I was 7. (In the summer of 1972! The first summer it was opened--after it opened in Oct. of '71.)

    Did I mention this link?
