People living in a DL or WDW ride?

Hi all! This my first post to MiceChat...I've been a lurker for about a year now but I finally made an account specifically to ask this question because it is bothering me so much.

Please tell me if I'm crazy.

I swear that I saw something about people living in a ride (can't remember if it was DL or WDW) that was closing way back when. They were filming themselves navigating between the ride vehicles and props, and trying to document it. If my memory serves me right, there was some sort of blog about it. I think they were males, but I could be wrong on that. I want to say that it was a ride in Tomorrowland or EPCOT, but I can't remember for sure. I can't remember if I saw it somewhere on here, or Youtube, or what, but I've been trying in vain to find it tonight and it's driving me NUTS.

If anyone can offer me any sort of information about this, that would be fantastic. It's really bothering me haha.

    Thanks!

You're thinking of Hoot and Chief, who did indeed break out of the Horizons vehicles at Epcot and spent a huge amount of time filming, climbing around in the show scenes, exploring the backstage areas, etc.

I'm still amazed they were able to actually pull this off. Their videos are below:

Other people have tried those things and been severly injured and died as a result.

Google "Mesa Verde Times". They ran a blog about their adventures.

What they did was certainly risky both in terms of safety and getting caught. I guess that is why it has a very suspenseful (no pun) feeling to it.

I saw that video and was equally appalled and amazed at what they did. There's no way to really justify what they did as it was wrong, but I have to admit that I do appreciate the lenghts they went to so they could document my all time favorite Disney attraction.

Just to clarify, did these guys actually get out of the ride vehicles during park hours as the ride was operating to document it all?

Yep. Everything they did was done while the ride was in normal operation. They got out of the ride vehicles, did their exploration and got back on a vehicle to exit the ride like normal guests.

I feel the way sbk does about it...amazed and appalled. I can't believe that Disney didn't have cameras and these guys were able to do this so many times without ever being caught. And of course it was dangerous and one should never applaud that. However. They did really document the ride, And I think many of us have dreamed of being able to walk around in a ride and explore. Not that we ever should or should endorse attempts to do so, but the fact that so many are fascinated and thrilled by evacs really show that it intrigues many. So while I don't agree with getting out, I like watching their videos.

Just a reminder, Disney actually committed this atrocity. It is an historical irony that they would choose an instrument of peace to inaugurate an era of death and barf bags.

If they ever dare try that at DL, I would chain myself to something inside the ride.
