Animated America Sings Update - New Animatics for Act 1 and 2

I didn't see the updates posted on here, so I just thought I'd share.

About two years back, someone wanted to sort of pay tribute to one of his favorite extinct attractions in Disneyland; America sings. To do so, he began translating the audio and real life visuals into extremely well done and expressive animatics and rough animations, and has been working on and off the project for nearly 15 years. Originally he just posted a partially completed Intro right here.

About a month ago, he then updated the project in a way, showing us animatics and some rough animations of Acts 1 and 2 as well as a single song sequence from Act 3. I really enjoyed them, as the animations can provide a whole lot more expression and character compared to the real life animatronics, and literally breathes new life into the attraction.

    ACT 2: THE SOUTH

    ACT 3: THE WEST

ACT 3: THE GAY NINETIES Excerpt - "Where is my Wandering Boy To-night?"

Awesome. He is a very talented animator. I wish they were more completed.

I sometimes forget how much I miss this attraction. Never quite understood the fit into Tomorrowland. But the Carousel of Progress building was a great vehicle for the show.

That is a prime example of how Disney (Imagineering) used to be able to repurpose an existing attraction and make it something worthwhile. (I'm looking at you Monsters Inc.) I am glad that they did re-use the animatronics in Splash Mountain.

This is a magnificent project. Does he have a Kickstarter or something? I would love to be able to contribute, even if only financially.

What struck me about the bits of completed animation is how closely it resembles DAS's house style from the 1970s--how America Sings would have looked had it been a cartoon back in 1974 rather than an audio-animatronic show.

That was great! Hopefully he will finish it someday! Although I never saw the attraction, I can surely appreciate it!

    OMG THIS IS AMAZING!

America Sings is one of my favorite former Disneyland attractions as well and it's one I can't get enough of. I hope this guy finishes the whole thing. The animation looks really nice. I am so impressed! If this guy doesn't have a Kickstarter for this project he should!

Is this for a student project? The animation captures the 70's Disney era very well.

Can we donate money for this, love to see a kickstarter. Easily generate enough funds to hire a helper or two to get it finished.

Holy moly, that really DOES look like it could fit right in with the Disney films from the 70's. Everything from the look, to the facial expressions.

In part, it goes to show how much the AAs for the ride were designed in accordance with character animation principles.

What a fantastic idea, and it's being accomplished brilliantly!!!!

I absolutely love the animation work in his videos. The completed sections are a knockout, and even the parts with work left, have the most marvelous animal facial expressions! What a wonderful tribute to this lost attraction! And a nice tribute and nod to the work of Marc Davis!

Curious to know if Alice Davis had any input or comments about this "in the works" animated version!

If I had the talent or money, I would so love to gather a bunch of 2D animators together or start a Kickstarter. Not only help finish this dream project of his, but also start others as well. Imagine a 2D version of The Enchanted Tiki Room on a vaudeville-esque jungle themed stage with different bird, tiki, and polynesian acts rotating in and out. Or It's a Small World fully animated in glorious 2D in the style of Mary Blair. Or best yet, perhaps animate one of the parades into a traditional 2D film. Soundsational would make an excellent one. I wish there was a way I could help this guy out finish his long standing project.

Re-watching, I love what he's done with the husband rabbit in "Wandering Boy." He turned a rigid mechanical silhouette into a real character with his own issues. He doesn't mean to abandon his wife and children; he's just being a sport and socializing with the big boys and doesn't understand his own limits.
