Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

As you may have noticed for a long time that there haven't been any others made after Splash Mountain. There was an Indiana Jones Attraction poster but it wasn't made as part of the official group that they show in the Disney Gallery. My question is why did they stop?

Re: Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

They stopped making full-size 36"x54" silkscreened attraction posters some time in the early 1970's after the Haunted Mansion opened. They were being produced by an outside firm and Disney opened up their own print shop and started printing attraction posters in a smaller format on "Tyvek" (a plastic type of paper).
Disney still makes "attraction" posters, just not in the quantity like they used to. Being a big poster collector, I have noticed when something new comes out, such as an attraction poster produced a couple of years ago for the "Moments with Lincoln" exhibit in the Opera House, and then again when the 50th show opened in the Opera House. These 2 posters are displayed in front of the Opera House in free-standing displays, not in the frames under the railroad tracks, but they are still attraction posters.
I would speculate that they aren't creating new posters because they have a surplus of old reproductions that they can use, plus it cost m-o-n-e-y to create new posters.

Didn't they kind of run out room in the tunnels between the Main Gate and Main Street. I mean how many -new- rides have been built since 1989 that are poster worthy, besides Indiana Jones? I wouldn't want to see a Pooh poster or Buzz poster over a classic poster..

Re: Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

I think it's more of a testament to the artwork from the early days. Personally, I'm not that fond of the newer artwork. Thinking about it now, I think it's probably because I like the minimalist look of using seperate screens for each color. Many of the original posters used only 4-6 colors to make a statement. The 20,000 Leagues poster had the most at 12 colors used. The newer posters have so many colors, they don't inspire my imagination the way the earlier stylized posters did.

it's wierd how Carousel of Progress, Fantasmic!, Indiana Jones, Wonders of China, Captain EO, and Star Tours all had posters to but they werent made mainstream like the rest.

Me too, I have one up right now in my bedroom. I change out my posters periodically.

Re: Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

Do they sell the COP one in the Disney Gallery because I didn;t see it there and it's not on my poster of all the mainstream attraction posters.

I just checked my list from the Disney Gallery. Carousel of Progress is NOT listed as available with Print-On-Demand.

Yeah, I have never seen the Carousel of Progress for sale, and I know it can be because of the mention of the sponsor, because with the Peoplemover poster they just removed the Goodyear logo.....

Re: Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

I know that there were some attraction posters that were printed on Tyvek (Wonders of China, American Journeys, The Walt Disney Story, Splash Mountain) that were produced, but were never used extensively around the Park.

Re: Why did the Attraction Posters stop after 1989?

This also makes me wonder why America Sings, House of the Future, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Viewliner, etc. didn't all get attraction posters either.
